How much does the KRC HBM-16F cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the KRC HBM-16F that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The KRC HBM-16F is the smallest of the three floor-type machines in KRC's HBM Series of horizontal boring mills: a 165 mm (6.47 in) boring spindle with an ISO 50 taper, 3,150 rpm, and a column whose X travel starts at 3,000 mm (118 in). KRC writes the column travel as 3,000 mm (118 in) + N° x 1,000 mm (39.4 in), so the bed grows in 1,000 mm (39.4 in) sections to suit the part.
Vertical travel is ordered rather than fixed. The spindle head (Y) runs from 2,000 mm (78.7 in) to 4,000 mm (157.5 in) depending on the column chosen. Reach into the work comes from two axes stacked together: the ram (Z) moves 1,200 mm (47 in) and the boring spindle (W) another 1,000 mm (39.4 in), for 2,200 mm (86.6 in) combined. That combined figure decides how deep a bore, or how far across a fabrication, the tool can go from one side.
Spindle power is given as a pair, 71 kW (95 HP) / 88 kW (118 HP), and maximum torque likewise as 10,000 Nm (7,376 ft-lb) / 12,400 Nm (9,146 ft-lb). The table does not label the two ratings, so ask KRC which duty each refers to. The series headstock uses a modular 3 step gearbox that KRC says can be removed as a unit without disassembling the ram and spindle. X and Y rapids are 16,000 mm/min (630 ipm); Z and W move at 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm).
The rotary table listed with the machine is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) x 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and carries 20,000 kg (44,040 lb). Hydrostatic guideways are a series feature, and the Y axis runs on a combination box way. Compared with the HBM-20F, the next size up, this machine gives away spindle diameter, torque and table load and gets a faster spindle and quicker X and Y rapids in return.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Spindle speed of 3,150 rpm, where the HBM-20F stops at 2,000 rpm
- Ram and boring spindle travel combine to 2,200 mm (86.6 in) of reach: 1,200 mm (47 in) on Z plus 1,000 mm (39.4 in) on W
- X and Y rapids of 16,000 mm/min (630 ipm), against 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm) on the HBM-20F
- Column travel starts at 3,000 mm (118 in) and is extended in 1,000 mm (39.4 in) sections; Y is ordered between 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and 4,000 mm (157.5 in)
- Modular 3 step gearbox headstock, positioned for removal as a unit without disassembling the ram and spindle
Limitations
- Taper is listed as ISO 50 only; the HBM-20F row reads ISO 50/60
- The 2,000 mm (78.7 in) square rotary table is rated for 20,000 kg (44,040 lb), below the 30,000 kg (66,060 lb) of the HBM-20F
- Maximum torque of 10,000 Nm (7,376 ft-lb) / 12,400 Nm (9,146 ft-lb) is well under the 18,000 Nm (13,280 ft-lb) / 22,600 Nm (16,670 ft-lb) of the HBM-20F
- KRC's table gives no tool magazine, control or positioning accuracy figures for this model, so those come from the quotation

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Column travel (X) is 3,000 mm (118 in) plus any number of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) extensions. Spindle head travel (Y) is ordered between 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and 4,000 mm (157.5 in). The ram (Z) travels 1,200 mm (47 in) and the boring spindle (W) 1,000 mm (39.4 in), which KRC totals as 2,200 mm (86.6 in).
02
Both list a 165 mm boring spindle, an ISO 50 taper and 3,150 rpm. On the HBM-16F the column travels along the bed for X and a ram provides Z. On the HBM-16T the table moves 2,500 mm (98 in) in X and the column provides 1,500 mm (59 in) of Z. The floor type also lists more power: 71 kW (95 HP) / 88 kW (118 HP) against 51 kW (68 HP) / 68 kW (91 HP) on the HBM-16T.
03
KRC lists spindle power as 71 kW (95 HP) / 88 kW (118 HP) and maximum torque as 10,000 Nm (7,376 ft-lb) / 12,400 Nm (9,146 ft-lb). The table does not say what the two values in each pair stand for, so confirm the duty ratings with KRC. Drive is through the series 3 step gearbox, which KRC says gives near constant power from base speed.
04
The table rows for this model show a 2,000 mm (78.7 in) x 2,000 mm (78.7 in) rotary table with a maximum load of 20,000 kg (44,040 lb). For the series, KRC describes a crossed roller or hydrostatic table bearing and a dual pinion drive with split worm transmission and hydraulic anti-backlash preload.
05
KRC describes hydrostatic guideways for the HBM Series, with no contact between the way surfaces and no stick slip. The Y axis is the exception: it uses a combination way system, a box way with low friction material opposite tychoway bearings on hardened steel. The column also has a hydraulic counterbalance.
