Overview

With 139 mm (5.5 in) of bar capacity and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z travel, the Johnford ST-60C is the mid-length small-frame ST lathe for large-bore work.

Pipe and tube are the obvious material. Stock up to the bar capacity passes through the 152 mm (6 in) bore of the A2-15 spindle, and the accessory list goes further: bigger spindle bores, with Ø234, Ø318, Ø410 and Ø510 mm named, are optional. A dented space in the headstock sheet metal for boring bar clearance and an independent boring bar system are also options, both aimed at deep internal work on long hollow parts.

Power is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) as standard through four automatic speeds, to 1,500 rpm with the belt-type gearbox. The 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp) motor is optional.

The table lists this model at 13,150 kg (28,930 lb). That is more than a tonne above the ST-60B at 12,100 kg (26,620 lb), a larger gap than between the B and C versions of the shorter and longer beds, so the figure is worth confirming when planning the foundation. Outside dimensions are 6,195 x 2,270 x 2,765 mm (243.9 x 89.4 x 108.9 in).
