How much does the Hwacheon CUTEX-240 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon CUTEX-240 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon CUTEX-240 is the biggest of the CUTEX lathes, above the CUTEX-160A and CUTEX-180, turning up to Ø380 mm (Ø15.0 in) and 664 to 680 mm (26.1 to 26.8 in) long over a Ø580 mm (Ø22.8 in) swing. All three spindle versions share an 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp) motor. What changes between them is the spindle itself: the CUTEX-240A and 240B run an 8 in chuck on an A2-6 nose at up to 5,000 rpm, while the CUTEX-240C carries a 10 in chuck on an A2-8 nose at up to 3,500 rpm.
Bar capacity steps up with each letter: Ø51 mm (Ø2.0 in) on the A, Ø65 mm (Ø2.6 in) on the B and Ø76 mm (Ø3.0 in) on the C. The A and B share a Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in) bore and Ø100 mm (Ø3.9 in) front bearing; the C opens to a Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in) bore on a Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in) bearing. The turret also differs, with 12 stations on the A and B and 10 on the C. A shop feeding bar larger than Ø65 mm (Ø2.6 in) needs the C and accepts its lower speed; one running smaller stock fast is better served by the A or B.
The SMC version turns this into a two-spindle machine. Its sub-spindle has an A2-5 nose, a 6 in chuck, 6,000 rpm, a Ø56 mm (Ø2.2 in) bore, Ø45 mm (Ø1.8 in) bar capacity and 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp), and it travels 650 mm (25.6 in) at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm). The MC and SMC carry live tools at 3.7 / 2.2 kW (5.0 / 3.0 hp) and 5,000 rpm, holding Ø20 mm end mills in ER 32 collets, with C-axis indexing in 0.0001° steps. Both give up some envelope: turning diameter drops to Ø355 mm (Ø14.0 in) and length to 548 to 565 mm (21.6 to 22.2 in).
X and Z rapid at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm), with 215 mm (8.5 in) of X and 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z (665 mm (26.2 in) on MC and SMC). The turret indexes at 0.15 sec/step. Machines without a sub-spindle have a tailstock with a Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) quill, 120 mm (4.7 in) of travel and MT #4. The machine weighs 5,500 kg (12,125 lb), 5,600 kg (12,346 lb) as MC and 5,700 kg (12,566 lb) as SMC, on a 3,230 x 1,815 mm (127.2 x 71.5 in) footprint. It needs 35 kVA and has a 200 L (53 US gal) coolant tank; the control is a FANUC 0i-TF Plus.
