Overview
With 1,050 mm (41.3 in) of X travel, the Johnford JET-40 is the long-table member of the two-model JET-32/40 pair. It keeps the pair's 40 m/min (1,575 ipm) X and Y rapids and puts them over a 1,200 x 500 mm (47.2 x 19.7 in) table.
Why does the extra length matter on a fast-rapid machine? Because the time lost travelling between features grows with the distance between them. On a 1,200 mm table loaded with a row of vises or a long fixture, the spindle spends a real share of the cycle crossing from one station to the next, and a 40 m/min axis recovers more of that than it would on a short table. The Z axis is slower at 20 m/min (787 ipm).
Cutting data is unchanged from the JET-32. Standard spindle speed is 60~8,000 rpm with 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp), and the quoted S45C capacity is 120 cc/min milling, Ø30 mm (Ø1.2 in) drilling and M30 x P3.5 tapping. Taper is BT-40, CAT-40 or BBT-40, with HSK A63 optional. Y travel is 500 mm (19.7 in) and Z is 610 mm (24 in).
The longer casting brings the weight to 6,000 kg (13,200 lb) and the footprint to 3,200 x 2,250 x 3,110 mm (126 x 88.6 x 122.4 in). Table load stays at 400 kg (880 lb). Options listed for the pair include CTS at 20 bar or 70 bar with a cartridge type filtration system, linear scales on X, Y and Z, a 4th-axis programmable rotary table and a Siemens SINUMERIK 828D control with a 10.4 in LCD.
