Overview

Akira Seiki's HV8A carries a 2,150 x 800 mm (84.7 x 31.5 in) table over 2,060 mm (81.1 in) of X travel. Y is 850 mm (33.5 in) and Z is 815 mm (32 in). At 14,410 kg (31,769 lb) it is a heavy machine, and it is meant for heavy parts: the table is rated 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) standard and 3,240 kg (7,142 lb) maximum.

Long 50-taper verticals of this kind earn their keep on weldments, press plates, machine beds and mould frames, work that is too long for a mid-size machine and does not need a bridge mill. The spindle is BT50 / CAT50 with 42 HP (31.3 kW) peak and 35 HP (26.1 kW) on the 30-minute rating. Top speed is 8,000 rpm; a 6,000 rpm spindle is optional.

Most of the specification is carried over from the HV6A, which is the shorter machine on the same Y and Z. The differences are X, the table rating, a 700 L (185 gal) coolant tank and the floor area, 4,950 x 3,525 mm (195 x 139 in).

Tools up to 15 kg (33 lb), 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 200 mm (7.9 in) in diameter with empty neighbours fit the 28T changer. Accuracy is listed at 0.015 mm (0.00059 in) positioning and ±0.005 mm (±0.00020 in) repeatability. The power requirement is 35 kVA.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the HV8A?

2,060 mm (81.1 in) in X, 850 mm (33.5 in) in Y and 815 mm (32 in) in Z, over a 2,150 x 800 mm (84.7 x 31.5 in) table. Spindle nose to table distance is 120~935 mm (5~37 in).

02 How much does the HV8A weigh?

14,410 kg (31,769 lb). The shorter HV6A weighs 12,475 kg (27,503 lb) and the longer HV10A 19,314 kg (42,580 lb). Dimensions of the HV8A are 4,950 x 3,525 mm (195 x 139 in).

03 What tooling does the HV8A take?

BT50 or CAT50 holders in a 28T arm-type changer. Limits are 100 mm (3.9 in) in diameter, 200 mm (7.9 in) without a neighbouring tool, 350 mm (13.8 in) in length and 15 kg (33 lb). A change takes 3.5 s.

04 How does the HV8A compare with the V8XP?

Same travels and table size, different spindle class. The V8XP has a BT40 spindle that reaches 12,000 rpm; the HV8A has the BT50 / CAT50 spindle at 8,000 rpm and takes tools more than twice as heavy.
