How much does the Johnford JET-1000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford JET-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Johnford JET-1000 is a die and mold oriented vertical machining center with a 60~15,000 rpm direct drive spindle as standard, BBT-40 taper and travels of 1,020 x 610 x 500 mm (40.2 x 24 x 19.7 in). Unlike the JET-32 and JET-40, which reach high spindle speeds only through options, this model starts there.
Johnford equips it accordingly. The standard Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS control comes with a 10.4 in LCD, Manual Guide i and a die & mold high-speed machining package, and the direct drive spindle has its own liquid cooling system. The standard motor is 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp). For finer tools there is an optional built-in spindle at 15,000, 18,000 or 20,000 rpm with 17 / 21 kW (22.8 / 28.2 hp) and an HSK A63 taper.
The structure is heavier than the travels suggest. At 8,000 kg (17,600 lb) it is well above the 6,000 kg (13,200 lb) of the JET-40, and the table carries 800 kg (1,760 lb) on a 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) surface, enough for a mold base of moderate size. Rapids are 40 / 40 / 24 m/min (1,575 / 1,575 / 945 ipm). The spindle center sits 180 mm (7.1 in) from the slideway, a short overhang that helps keep the head stiff at speed.
Z travel is the tight dimension. With 500 mm (19.7 in) of Z and 100~600 mm (3.9~23.6 in) from spindle nose to table, deep cavities in tall blocks need planning, and tool length is capped at 300 mm (11.8 in). Linear scales on X, Y and Z and a thermal compensation system on the spindle are options that mold shops usually ask about; neither is standard here.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 15,000 rpm direct drive spindle with liquid cooling is standard, not an option
- Standard Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS includes a die & mold high-speed machining package
- 800 kg (1,760 lb) table load on a 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) table
- Rapids of 40 / 40 / 24 m/min (1,575 / 1,575 / 945 ipm)
- Optional built-in spindle to 20,000 rpm with 17 / 21 kW (22.8 / 28.2 hp)
Limitations
- Z travel is 500 mm (19.7 in), less than the 610 mm (24 in) of the JET-32 and JET-40
- Maximum tool length is 300 mm (11.8 in)
- Linear scales and spindle thermal compensation cost extra
- The specification table and the accessory list give different standard tool counts, so the magazine size should be confirmed with Johnford

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Standard is a direct drive spindle running 60~15,000 rpm with a 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) motor and BBT-40 taper. The option is a built-in spindle at 15,000 / 18,000 / 20,000 rpm with 17 / 21 kW (22.8 / 28.2 hp) and HSK A63.
02
The JET-40 has a 60~8,000 rpm standard spindle, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y, 610 mm (24 in) of Z and a 400 kg (880 lb) table load. The JET-1000 has 15,000 rpm as standard, 610 mm (24 in) of Y, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Z and an 800 kg (1,760 lb) table load, and it weighs 8,000 kg (17,600 lb).
03
Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS with a 10.4 in LCD, Manual Guide i and the die & mold high-speed machining package is standard. Options are Fanuc 31i-MB PLUS with a 15 in LCD, Siemens SINUMERIK 828D with a 10.4 in LCD and Siemens SINUMERIK ONE with a 15 in LCD.

Johnford's page is not consistent on this. The specification table lists 24 tools for the arm type changer as standard and 32 tools or more as an option, while the standard accessory list names a 40-tool ATC. Ask Johnford which applies to a quoted machine. Tool limits are Ø75 mm (Ø3 in) with adjacent pockets filled, Ø100 mm (Ø4 in) without, and 10 kg (22 lb).
