Overview

The Hwacheon HiT-400L is the long-table member of the HiT family, with 700 mm (27.6 in) of X travel over an 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table. Y is 400 mm (15.7 in), Z is 300 mm (11.8 in), the spindle takes BBT-30 tooling and every axis rapids at 60 m/min (2,362 ipm).

X travel and table length are what separate it from the HiT-400, which has a 600 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 in) table and weighs 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). The HiT-400L weighs 2,600 kg (5,732 lb) and needs 2,140 x 2,085 mm (84.3 x 82.1 in) of floor. A longer table suits a row of vises or a multi-part fixture along X, but the table rating does not rise with it: it remains 200 kg (441 lb), so steel fixtures across the full length should be weighed first.

Three spindle versions are offered, each tied to a control. The 12K reaches 12,000 rpm on FANUC 0i-MF, the 15K reaches 15,000 rpm on SIEMENS-828D and the 24K reaches 24,000 rpm on either. Power ratings are 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) for FANUC and 7.2 / 4.8 kW (9.7 / 6.4 hp) for SIEMENS. The spindle is direct-coupled and grease-lubricated, the 24K has an oil cooler, and through-spindle coolant can be added, taking the tank from 200 L (53 US gal) to 300 L (79 US gal).

The 21 tools are selected by fixed address and changed in 1.6 sec chip to chip. Each may be up to Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), 200 mm (7.9 in) long and 2.5 kg (5.5 lb). The spindle nose travels 150 to 450 mm (5.9 to 17.7 in) above the table. Installation needs 25 kVA, 220V, 60Hz for FANUC or 380V, 60Hz for SIEMENS, and air at 5 kg/cm².

Work that outgrows the 200 kg (441 lb) rating points to the SIRIUS-UM+, which has an 850 x 500 mm (33.5 x 19.7 in) table rated 800 kg (1,764 lb) and a 20,000 rpm BBT-40 or 32,000 rpm HSK-E40 spindle.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 700 mm (27.6 in) of X travel over an 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table for rows of fixtures
  • 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) rapids on X, Y and Z
  • 1.6 sec chip-to-chip tool change from a 21-tool fixed-address magazine
  • Spindle versions to 12,000 rpm (FANUC), 15,000 rpm (SIEMENS) or 24,000 rpm (either control)
  • Optional through-spindle coolant with a 300 L (79 US gal) tank

Limitations

  • Table load stays at 200 kg (441 lb) despite the 800 mm (31.5 in) table length
  • Spindle rated 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) with FANUC and 7.2 / 4.8 kW (9.7 / 6.4 hp) with SIEMENS
  • BBT-30 tooling with a 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) tool weight and Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) diameter limit
  • Z travel of 300 mm (11.8 in) restricts tall parts and fixtures
06

Best For

Multi-vise setups along 700 mm (27.6 in) of X travel Long, narrow parts on an 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table Short-cycle drilling and tapping with BBT-30 tools Light parts and fixtures within a 200 kg (441 lb) table load

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the HiT-400L differ from the HiT-400?

The HiT-400L has an 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table and weighs 2,600 kg (5,732 lb). The HiT-400 has a 600 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 in) table and weighs 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). Both are rated 200 kg (441 lb) on the table and share the BBT-30 spindle options and the 21-tool magazine.

02 How much weight can the HiT-400L table carry?

200 kg (441 lb). The longer table does not raise the rating, so add up vises, fixtures and parts across the full 800 mm (31.5 in) length before planning a fully loaded table.

03 What spindle speeds are available on the HiT-400L?

12,000 rpm on the 12K version with FANUC 0i-MF, 15,000 rpm on the 15K version with SIEMENS-828D, and 24,000 rpm on the 24K version with either control. The 24K spindle has an oil cooler; the 12K and 15K use a fan cooler. Through-spindle coolant is optional.

04 What tools does the HiT-400L take?

BBT-30 tools with a 45° pull stud, up to Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), 200 mm (7.9 in) long and 2.5 kg (5.5 lb). The magazine holds 21 tools on fixed addresses and changes in 1.6 sec chip to chip.

05 How much floor space does the HiT-400L need?

2,140 x 2,085 mm (84.3 x 82.1 in), length by width, at a weight of 2,600 kg (5,732 lb). Height is 2,384 mm (93.9 in), rising to 2,500 mm (98.4 in) with the top cover and 2,660 mm (104.7 in) with through-spindle coolant.
