Overview
The Hwacheon SIRIUS-UX is a 50-taper vertical machining center that runs fast: a BBT-50 built-in spindle at 12,000 or 15,000 rpm rated 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp), with 1,500 x 750 x 650 mm (59.1 x 29.5 x 25.6 in) of travel over a 1,650 x 750 mm (65.0 x 29.5 in) table rated 2,500 kg (5,512 lb).
Many 50-taper machines use a gearbox for low-speed torque. The SIRIUS-UX lists none: its spindle is a built-in motor on a Ø100 mm (Ø3.9 in) bearing with oil-jet lubrication and an oil-cooled jacket. The large taper gives rigidity for heavy steel cuts and long tools, while 12,000 or 15,000 rpm leaves room for finishing with smaller cutters in the same setup. For comparison, the gear-driven SIRIUS-650 reaches 5,000 or 8,000 rpm at 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp).
The magazine holds 40 tools, 60 as an option, and uses fixed-address selection, so each tool returns to its own pocket. That keeps the large tools where the programmer put them, which matters with tools up to Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) when the adjacent pockets are empty, Ø120 mm (Ø4.7 in) otherwise, 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 20 kg (44 lb). BBT-50 holders are standard and CAT-50 is an option.
The frame is sized for heavy die and mould sets. The distance between columns is 1,800 mm (70.9 in), the spindle nose ranges 175 to 825 mm (6.9 to 32.5 in) above the table, and five 18 mm T-slots at 125 mm pitch take the clamps. Rapids are 20 m/min (787 ipm) on all three axes.
The machine weighs 13,860 kg (30,556 lb), stands 3,550 mm (139.8 in) tall and needs a floor space of 3,770 x 3,330 mm (148.4 x 131.1 in). Supply is 70 kVA with air at 0.5 to 0.7 MPa x 690 NL/min, and the coolant tank holds 290 L (77 US gal). Control is Fanuc 31i-B.
