Overview

The Hwacheon HiT-400 is a compact BBT-30 vertical machining center with 520 x 400 x 300 mm (20.5 x 15.7 x 11.8 in) of X, Y and Z travel, a 600 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 in) table and 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) rapids on all three axes. It is a machine for short cycles on small parts, where rapid moves and tool changes take up as much of the cycle as cutting does.

The spindle is chosen together with the control. The 12K version runs to 12,000 rpm on a FANUC 0i-MF, the 15K version to 15,000 rpm on a SIEMENS-828D, and the 24K version to 24,000 rpm on either. All are direct-coupled, grease-lubricated and jacket-cooled, by a fan cooler on 12K and 15K and by an oil cooler on 24K. Rated power is 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) on the FANUC versions and 7.2 / 4.8 kW (9.7 / 6.4 hp) on the SIEMENS versions. Through-spindle coolant (CTS) is an option. The control also decides the supply: FANUC machines take 220V, 60Hz and SIEMENS machines 380V, 60Hz, so settle it with the shop's electrics before ordering.

The 21-tool magazine works on fixed addresses and changes chip to chip in 1.6 sec. Each tool may be up to Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), 200 mm (7.9 in) long and 2.5 kg (5.5 lb), which is the territory of drills, taps and small end mills. The spindle nose sits 150 to 450 mm (5.9 to 17.7 in) from the table.

The table is rated 200 kg (441 lb). The HiT-400L carries the same rating on a longer 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table, and the HiT-360D has two 650 x 400 mm (25.6 x 15.7 in) tables rated 250 kg (551 lb) each. The HiT-400 is the smallest of the three on the floor at 1,650 x 2,085 mm (65.0 x 82.1 in) and 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). Height is 2,384 mm (93.9 in), 2,500 mm (98.4 in) with the top cover and 2,660 mm (104.7 in) with CTS, and the coolant tank grows from 200 L (53 US gal) to 300 L (79 US gal) when CTS is fitted.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) rapids on X, Y and Z with a 1.6 sec chip-to-chip tool change keep non-cutting time short
  • Three spindle choices: 12,000 rpm (12K, FANUC), 15,000 rpm (15K, SIEMENS) or 24,000 rpm (24K, FANUC or SIEMENS)
  • Small footprint of 1,650 x 2,085 mm (65.0 x 82.1 in) at a machine weight of 2,500 kg (5,512 lb)
  • Through-spindle coolant (CTS) is available, with a 300 L (79 US gal) tank in place of the standard 200 L (53 US gal)
  • The 24K spindle gets an oil cooler on its cooling jacket rather than the fan cooler of the 12K and 15K versions

Limitations

  • Table load is 200 kg (441 lb), so a heavy vise or a rotary table uses up much of the rating
  • Spindle power is 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) on FANUC and 7.2 / 4.8 kW (9.7 / 6.4 hp) on SIEMENS versions, which limits heavy roughing
  • BBT-30 tools are limited to Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), 200 mm (7.9 in) long and 2.5 kg (5.5 lb)
  • 300 mm (11.8 in) of Z travel and a fixed-address magazine of 21 tools

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which spindle and control combinations does the HiT-400 offer?

Three. The 12K spindle reaches 12,000 rpm with a FANUC 0i-MF. The 15K spindle reaches 15,000 rpm with a SIEMENS-828D. The 24K spindle reaches 24,000 rpm and can have either control. FANUC versions are rated 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp), SIEMENS versions 7.2 / 4.8 kW (9.7 / 6.4 hp). Through-spindle coolant is optional on all.

02 How does the HiT-400 differ from the HiT-400L and the HiT-360D?

The HiT-400L has a longer 800 x 400 mm (31.5 x 15.7 in) table, the same 200 kg (441 lb) rating and weighs 2,600 kg (5,732 lb). The HiT-360D has two 650 x 400 mm (25.6 x 15.7 in) tables rated 250 kg (551 lb) each. All three use the BBT-30 spindle options and a 21-tool magazine; the HiT-400 has the single 600 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 in) table.

03 What size tools fit the HiT-400 magazine?

Up to Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) in diameter, 200 mm (7.9 in) in length and 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) in weight, in a BBT-30 taper with a 45° pull stud. The magazine holds 21 tools on fixed addresses and changes in 1.6 sec chip to chip.

04 What power and air supply does the HiT-400 need?

The electrical demand is 25 kVA. FANUC versions run on 220V, 60Hz and SIEMENS versions on 380V, 60Hz. Air supply is listed at 5 kg/cm². Check which control you are ordering before planning the electrical installation.

05 How much room does the HiT-400 take up?

The floor area is 1,650 x 2,085 mm (65.0 x 82.1 in), length by width, and the machine weighs 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). It stands 2,384 mm (93.9 in) tall, 2,500 mm (98.4 in) with the top cover and 2,660 mm (104.7 in) with through-spindle coolant fitted.
