Huron NX 70 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron NX 70 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron NX 70 is the largest NX portal milling centre, with 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel, 2,200 mm of Y and a 3,500 x 2,000 mm table for 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). Huron publishes a fuller table for this model than for its siblings, and the extra rows are useful.

They show 2,500 mm between the columns, a table surface 920 mm above the floor, and a distance from spindle nose to table top that ranges from 200 to 1,000 mm. T-slots are given as 12 x 22 x 160 mm. For anyone planning fixtures or checking whether a welded frame will pass between the uprights, those are the numbers that decide it.

The spindle rows are also more explicit. Power is 21.5 / 32.3 kW and torque 117 / 170 Nm, labelled S1 / S6, on an ISO 50 taper at up to 6,000 rpm with a 1,500 rpm nominal speed. So the 32.3 kW quoted across the NX range is the intermittent rating, and the continuous figure is 21.5 kW.

Two things are smaller than on the NX 60. Z travel is 700 mm, and the magazine holds 24 tools, though each may be up to 254 mm in diameter with adjacent pockets empty. Rapids are 15 m/min. The machine weighs 37,000 kg (81,570 lb) and is 10,650 mm long.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel, the longest in the NX series
  • 2,500 mm clear between the columns
  • Spindle ratings given for both duty cycles: 21.5 / 32.3 kW and 117 / 170 Nm (S1 / S6)
  • Up to 1,000 mm between spindle nose and table top
  • Tool diameters up to 254 mm with adjacent housings free

Limitations

  • Only 24 tool housings, against 40 on the NX 60
  • Z travel is 700 mm, less than the 800 mm of the NX 60
  • Continuous spindle power is 21.5 kW
  • Table load stays at 10,000 kg although the table is longer than on the NX 60
06

Best For

Long, wide weldments and frames that must pass between 2,500 mm columns Roughing of large plates up to 3,500 x 2,000 mm Heavy general-engineering parts up to 10,000 kg Jobs using large face mills up to 254 mm in diameter

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Huron NX 70?

4,200 mm in X, 2,200 mm in Y and 700 mm in Z, with rapids of 15 m/min on all three. The table is 3,500 x 2,000 mm and takes 10,000 kg (22,046 lb).

02 What clearances does the NX 70 offer?

Huron lists 2,500 mm between the columns and a spindle nose to table top distance of 200 to 1,000 mm. The table top is 920 mm above the floor, and the T-slot row reads 12 x 22 x 160 mm.

03 What is the continuous spindle power of the NX 70?

The table gives 21.5 / 32.3 kW and 117 / 170 Nm under the heading S1 / S6. The first figure of each pair is the S1 rating. Nominal speed is 1,500 rpm and maximum speed 6,000 rpm on an ISO 50 taper.

04 Why does the NX 70 have fewer tools than the NX 60?

Huron does not give a reason. The table simply lists 24 housings for the NX 70 and 40 for the NX 60. The NX 70 magazine does accept larger tools, up to 127 mm in diameter with all housings full and 254 mm with adjacent ones empty.

05 How big is the NX 70?

It is 10,650 mm long, 6,160 mm wide with doors opened and chip conveyor, and 4,790 mm high. Machine weight is 37,000 kg (81,570 lb), the heaviest of the NX series.
