Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron RDX 30 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron RDX 30 is a C-frame vertical machining centre with 1,020 x 600 x 610 mm (40.2 x 23.6 x 24.0 in) of travel, a 12,000 rpm ISO 40 spindle and 24 tool pockets. Huron positions it for single parts and small to medium series where precision and surface finish count, which is toolroom and precision-engineering work rather than high-volume production.
Two table arrangements appear in Huron's specification. The standard machine has a fixed table of 1,200 x 550 mm that takes 900 kg (1,984 lb), with 125 to 735 mm between spindle nose and table top. The RDX 30 (3+2) version replaces it with a table that has 2 rotative axes and a 348 mm diameter plate. That table carries 300 kg flat and 250 kg when tilted to 90°, and the clearance under the spindle nose falls to 385 mm at most. Travels, spindle and tool changer are the same on both.
The spindle delivers 11.5 / 10.5 kW and 110 / 100 Nm with a characteristic speed of 1,000 rpm. Full torque that low in the speed range helps with larger cutters in steel, while 12,000 rpm covers finishing with small tools. All three axes traverse at 30 m/min.
Positioning is stated as 0.015 mm and repeatability as 0.007 mm on X, Y and Z. The machine occupies 4,200 x 4,200 mm with doors open and chip conveyor, stands 2,945 mm high and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Offered with a fixed 1,200 x 550 mm table or as the RDX 30 (3+2) with a 2-axis rotary table of 348 mm diameter
- 110 / 100 Nm of spindle torque at a characteristic speed of 1,000 rpm, with a 12,000 rpm top speed
- 900 kg (1,984 lb) table load on the fixed-table version
- Up to 735 mm between spindle nose and table top leaves room for tall fixtures and vises
Limitations
- The 3+2 table limits the load to 300 kg flat and 250 kg at 90°, and the clearance under the spindle to 385 mm at most
- Rapids are 30 m/min on all axes, slower than the PX 40 at 40 m/min on X and Y
- Stated positioning is 0.015 mm, against 0.010 mm for the PX 40
- Tool weight is limited to 7 kg and tool length to 250 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Only the table. The RDX 30 has a fixed table of 1,200 x 550 mm rated for 900 kg. The RDX 30 (3+2) has a table with 2 rotative axes and a 348 mm diameter plate, rated for 300 kg with the table at 0° and 250 kg at 90°. The distance from spindle nose to table is 125 to 735 mm on the fixed table and at most 385 mm on the rotary one.
02
An ISO 40 spindle that runs to 12,000 rpm, rated 11.5 / 10.5 kW and 110 / 100 Nm. The characteristic speed is 1,000 rpm, so the torque is available early in the speed range. Huron's table lists one spindle for this model and no alternatives.
03
The changer has 24 housings. Tools may be 80 mm in diameter, or 125 mm for an oversize tool, up to 250 mm long and up to 7 kg (15 lb). Those limits suit standard 40-taper tooling but exclude long boring bars and heavy face mills.
04
Huron states a positioning figure of 0.015 mm and a repeatability of 0.007 mm on X, Y and Z. Huron also describes calibrated, preloaded ball screws with direct drive at the end of the screw.
05
With doors opened and the chip conveyor fitted it measures 4,200 mm wide by 4,200 mm deep and 2,945 mm high. Machine weight is 6,500 kg (14,330 lb). The square footprint includes the conveyor, so plan the swarf bin position before fixing the layout.
