With 36 in (914 mm) of X travel, the Haas DT-3 is the long-travel DT drill/tap center: a BT30 vertical with 16 in (406 mm) of Y, 15.5 in (394 mm) of Z and a 38 × 15 in (965 × 381 mm) table. The extra length is the whole point of the model. Spindle rating, feeds and tool count match the DT-2, which has 28 in (711 mm) of X and a 34 × 15 in (864 × 381 mm) table.

A long, narrow envelope like this suits extrusions, rails, manifolds and plates with hole patterns, or a line of small fixtures worked in one cycle. Rapids of 2,400 ipm (61 m/min) count for more on a long axis, since the spindle may cross most of the table between features. Weight on the table is the constraint. Haas gives a maximum table load of 250 lb (113.4 kg) and 400 lb (181.4 kg) evenly distributed, so a long fixture plate has to be a light one.
