Overview

With a Ø255 mm (Ø10 in) table, the Campro NU 255C sits one step above the entry model in the NU series of trunnion-type 5-axis machining centers. X travel is 400 mm (15.7 in), Y is 520 mm (20.4 in) and Z is 450 mm (17.7 in). The A axis swivels +30°~-120° and the C axis rotates 360°.

Compared with the NU 170C, the X travel is the same but almost everything that affects the size of job is larger. Table load doubles to 100 / 70 kg (220 / 154 lb) (V / H), Campro's stated maximum workpiece grows to Ø320x 375 mm, and the spindle motor goes from 7.5 / 11 kW (15 HP) on the NU 170C to 11 / 15 kW (20 HP). The spindle itself is the same class: BBT-40 at 10,000 rpm.

The rotary table is the slower part of the machine. A / C rapid feedrate is 22.2 / 33.3 rpm, so programs that index constantly will spend visible time turning the part; linear rapids are 30 m/min on X, Y and Z. Campro describes the A/C axes as double arm supported and the linear axes as running on heavy duty roller type linear guideways.

Tooling capacity is 24 tools as standard with 30 as the option. A tool may be Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), or Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) beside empty pockets, up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). The machine weighs 5,600 kg (12,345 lb) on a 2,950 × 2,260 mm (116 in x 88 in) floor plan and needs 30 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table load of 100 / 70 kg (220 / 154 lb) (V / H), twice the 50 / 30 kg of the NU 170C
  • A axis range of +30°~-120° with a 360° C axis on a double arm supported trunnion
  • 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) BBT-40 spindle at 10,000 rpm
  • 24-tool magazine with a 30-tool option
  • Y travel of 520 mm (20.4 in), longer than the 400 mm (15.7 in) X travel, which gives room to swing the trunnion

Limitations

  • A / C rapid feedrate is 22.2 / 33.3 rpm; the NU 170C lists 200 / 300 rpm
  • X travel stays at 400 mm (15.7 in), the same as the NU 170C
  • Z travel of 450 mm (17.7 in) is shorter than the 480 mm (18.8 in) of the NU 170C
  • Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb) and 250 mm (9.8 in) length

Best For

5-axis parts up to the stated Ø320x 375 mm workpiece size Fixtures and parts within 100 / 70 kg (220 / 154 lb) (V / H) 3+2 positioning work where the 22.2 / 33.3 rpm table speed is not the bottleneck Shops that need more spindle motor than the NU 170C offers in a similar footprint

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the NU 255C and the NU 170C?

The NU 255C has a Ø255 mm (Ø10 in) table, 100 / 70 kg (220 / 154 lb) load, 520 mm (20.4 in) of Y travel and an 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) spindle motor. The NU 170C has a Ø170 mm (Ø6.6 in) table, 50 / 30 kg (110 / 66 lb) load and 7.5 / 11 kW (15 HP), but its A / C axes rapid at 200 / 300 rpm against 22.2 / 33.3 rpm here.

02 How far does the table of the NU 255C tilt?

The A axis swiveling range is +30°~-120° and the C axis rotary range is 360°. Campro describes the A/C axes as double arm supported. The distance from spindle nose to table surface is 40~490 mm (1.5 in ~ 19.2 in), which is the clearance to plan fixtures and tool lengths around.

03 How many tools does the NU 255C hold?

24 tools as standard, with 30 listed as the option. Maximum tool diameter is Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), or Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with adjacent pockets empty. Maximum tool length is 250 mm (9.8 in) and maximum tool weight is 7 kg (15 lb). The shank is BBT-40.

04 What are the installation figures for the NU 255C?

Machine weight is 5,600 kg (12,345 lb). The floor plan is 2,950 × 2,260 mm (116 in x 88 in) and the maximum machine height is 2,900 mm (114 in). Power capacity is listed as 30 kVA. The table does not state an air requirement or name a control.
