Overview
"The travel path in the X-axis is an essential criterion when selecting the right machine," Hedelius writes about the TILTENTA 10-4600, and the reasoning is sound. A travelling column machine like this one is bought to do three things: 5-axis work on cubic parts, vertical machining of long parts, and machining from the end faces. Each makes its own demand on X, and at 4,600 mm (181.1 in) vertical and 3,760 mm horizontal this model covers all three generously.
It is also the first TILTENTA 10 length with pendulum operation in the data sheet, at 1,965 x 1,965 mm. Hedelius lists oscillating machining for it and fits motor-activated automatic doors. One work area can hold the integrated rotary table for 5-axis parts while the other takes plain 3-axis fixtures.
The rest is SK50 heavy machining. The swivel spindle has 300 Nm and 50 kW, with the BIG PLUS duplex contact system as standard and HSK A100 optional, at up to 8,000 or 12,000 rpm. Its swivel head is clamped hydraulically at 10,000 Nm. Y travel is 1,000 mm, Z is 1,000 / 1,165 mm, and feed force is 34,000 N.
Loads are 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) on the fixed 5,080 x 1,000 mm table and 1,600 kg on the rotary table, or 2,200 kg with the optional version. The faceplate is Ø 1,000 mm. A 40-tool magazine is standard, extendable to give access to 192 tools up to 400 mm long. The machine weighs 29,500 kg (65,035 lb), stands 3,240 mm high for transport, and takes ca. 15 s chip to chip.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Hedelius notes that a travelling column machining centre can produce cubic workpieces in 5 axes and also machine long parts vertically or from the end faces, which makes the X travel an essential selection criterion. This model offers 4,600 mm vertical and 3,760 mm horizontal.
02
Yes. The data sheet lists pendulum operation as 1,965 x 1,965 mm, and Hedelius lists oscillating machining among the features, together with motor-activated automatic doors for ease of use.
03
The fixed table, with a clamping area of 5,080 x 1,000 mm, carries 6,500 kg (14,330 lb). The integrated heavy-duty rotary table carries 1,600 kg, or 2,200 kg as an option, on a Ø 1,000 mm faceplate with 12,000 Nm of holding torque.
04
300 Nm and 50 kW at up to 8,000 or 12,000 rpm, in SK50 BIG PLUS as standard or HSK A100 as an option. The swivel range is -5° to +98° or -98° to +98°, with 2,400 Nm of swivel torque and 10,000 Nm clamped.
