Overview

The Hartford 5BC-838 is the largest 5BC: a 5-axis double-column machining center with 8,000 mm (315.0 in) of X travel, 3,800 mm (149.6 in) of Y and an 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315.0 x 98.4 in) table that carries 27,000 kg (59,524 lb).

At eight metres the machine is sized by its longest part. Typical candidates are aircraft wing and fuselage tooling, ship and energy components, and the long beds and columns of other machines. For shorter parts the 5BC-738 or 5BC-538 offer the same cross-section of working space on a shorter foundation.

Hartford's head for the line is a two-axis fork unit. B and C each deliver up to 1,000 NM, and the head body measures 540 x 521 mm in section. It carries a built-in spindle with either an HSK-A63 interface, 15,000 / 24,000 rpm and 7 kg tools, or an HSK-A100 interface, 12,000 rpm and 20 kg tools.

The HSK-A100 motor is 34 /43 kW; the HSK-A63 motor is 29.5 / 37 kW, or 30 / 37 kW as an option. Z travel is 1,000 mm, optionally 1,200 mm. The page presents the machine with a display designed for Heidenhain TNC 640.
