Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler FDM-6228 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training

Overview

Six metres of table and 21 ton: the Feeler FDM-6228 offers 6,200 mm (244.1 in) of X travel over a 6,000 × 2,600 mm (236.2 × 102.4 in) table. In brackets the load rises to 24 ton.

This is the length at which the X axis slows in the FDM series. X rapid is 12 m/min (472 ipm). The three shorter models of this width, up to the FDM-5228, are listed at 15 m/min. Y remains at 15 m/min (591 ipm) and Z at 12 m/min.

A table this long is often used for more than one job. Two medium moulds can sit end to end, or a long mould base can be machined in one setting instead of being repositioned. Either way the weight adds up, and the 21 ton rating has to cover both workpieces and everything holding them. Feeler describes the axes as supported over their full travel, which the maker links to structural stability and vibration resistance in large mould machining.

Y travel is 2,700 mm (106.3 in), with 3,300 mm (129.9 in) bracketed; Z is 800 mm (31.5 in), with 1,000-1,400 mm bracketed. The spindle is listed at 6,000 rpm on BT/DIN/CAT 50, the alternative range being 4,000-8,000 rpm with #40. The magazine holds 24 tools, and the bracketed range of 32 to 90 is worth using when two jobs share the table.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table 6,000 mm long, enough for two medium moulds end to end
  • 21 ton load, or 24 ton as the bracketed rating
  • Full-travel supported axes, by Feeler's description
  • Magazine range up to 90 tools

Limitations

  • X rapid drops to 12 m/min (472 ipm)
  • Y travel of 2,700 mm unless the bracketed 3,300 mm is ordered
  • No information on work-zone division or power on the series page

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long is the table of the Feeler FDM-6228?

6,000 mm (236.2 in), by 2,600 mm (102.4 in) wide. X travel is 6,200 mm (244.1 in), a little more than the table length.

02 Why does the X rapid fall to 12 m/min?

Feeler gives no reason. The table lists 12 m/min (472 ipm) for X from this model upward and 15 m/min for the FDM-5228 and shorter. A longer table carrying 21 ton or more is a larger mass to move.

03 Can two workpieces be set up at once?

The 6,000 mm table has the length for it, and the combined weight must stay inside the 21 ton rating, or 24 ton with the bracketed figure. Feeler's page does not describe pendulum operation or a divided work area.

04 What spindle taper is fitted?

BT/DIN/CAT 50 as listed, with #40 in brackets. Speed is given as 6,000 rpm, with 4,000-8,000 rpm as the bracketed range. The pairing of taper and speed for each option should be confirmed with the maker.
