Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford PBM-115A that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford PBM-115A is a table-type horizontal boring mill, the smaller of the two PBM sizes. X travel is 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Y is 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and Z is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), with a W axis of 500 mm (19.7 in). The rotary table measures 1,400 x 1,600 mm (55.1 x 63.0 in) and carries 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
A boring mill differs from a horizontal machining center in what it is optimised for. The spindle is geared for torque, here a gear head at 3,000 rpm on a #50 nose, and the W axis lets the boring spindle extend toward the work so that deep bores are reached without long, flexible tooling. Hartford supports the W axis on two linear guideways, which it says raises both rigidity and accuracy of that axis.
The structure is box-way throughout. On the column the box guideways are 700mm apart and 80mm thick, and the widened base spans 1040mm between its guideways. X and Z are driven through planetary reducers for axial thrust, while Y is direct-drive for speed and low noise. W-type ribs in the base are credited with 50% more rigidity.
The spindle motor is 15 / 18.5 kW, with 18.5 / 22 kW optional (Cont. / 30 min). The tool magazine holds 32, 40 or 60 tools on BT-50 shanks, with CAT50, DIN and BBT50 as alternatives.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- W axis of 500 mm (19.7 in) on two linear guideways for deep boring
- Table load of 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) on a 1,400 x 1,600 mm (55.1 x 63.0 in) table
- Box guideways with a 700mm column span and 1040mm base span
- Planetary reducers on X and Z for drive torque; direct-drive Y
- 32, 40 or 60 tool magazine
Limitations
- Spindle speed is limited to 3,000 rpm
- Travels are fixed at 2,000 x 1,600 x 1,500 mm; the optional longer strokes belong to the PBM-135 models
- Largest motor is 18.5 / 22 kW (Cont. / 30 min), below the 30 / 37 kW option of the PBM-135A
- Spindle diameter and table indexing data are not on the product page

X 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Y 1,600 mm (63.0 in), Z 1,500 mm (59.1 in) and W 500 mm (19.7 in). The table is 1,400 x 1,600 mm (55.1 x 63.0 in) and its average load is 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
02
A #50 gear-head spindle listed at 3,000 rpm, in a box-type spindle stock that Hartford describes as highly rigid. The motor is 15 / 18.5 kW with 18.5 / 22 kW as the option (Cont. / 30 min).
03
By two linear guideways. Hartford states that this increases the supported rigidity and the accuracy of the W axis and gives greater supporting capacity; a headline on the page puts the rigidity gain on the W axis at 100%.
04
The table is the same size and load on both. The PBM-135A has longer travels, 2,500 mm in X as listed with 3,000 or 4,000 mm optional, a 700 mm (27.6 in) W axis, a 2,500 rpm spindle and a 22 / 26 kW motor with 30 / 37 kW optional.
