Overview

The Hartford MW-633 is a six-metre moving-crossbeam double-column machining center on the narrower MW bridge. X travel is 6,000 mm (236.2 in), Y is 3,300 mm (129.9 in), and the table is 6,000 x 2,200 mm (236.2 x 86.6 in) with an 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) load.

Long, narrow and tall is a common shape in heavy engineering: the bed of a lathe, the column of a boring mill, the frame of a press. Such parts need their top machined flat over the full length and their sides and ends drilled, bored and tapped. On the MW-633 the top is cut with the main spindle and the sides with a 90 degree head, in one clamping, and the crossbeam is lowered to keep the ram short whatever the part height.

Hartford describes its own gear head, listed here at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm, and a hybrid spindle at 10,000 rpm. The spindle nose is #50 and the motor 18.5 / 22 kW, with 30 / 35 kW as the option. Spindle run-out is stated as within 5μm.

The W axis travels 1,200 mm, optionally 1,500 mm or 1,800 mm; Z travels 1,000 mm, optionally 1,200 mm. BT-50 tools, or CAT50, DIN or BBT50, are held in a magazine of 32, 40 or 62.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the main dimensions of the Hartford MW-633?

X travel 6,000 mm (236.2 in), Y travel 3,300 mm (129.9 in), Z travel 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional), W travel 1,200 mm (1,500 or 1,800 mm optional). Table 6,000 x 2,200 mm (236.2 x 86.6 in).

02 How heavy a part can the MW-633 carry?

18,000 kg (39,683 lb) as an average table load. For comparison, the wider MW-643 is rated for 24,000 kg (52,910 lb).

03 Why does the MW-633 have a moving crossbeam?

To match the beam height to the part. Hartford's W-axis uses twin ballscrews and twin servo motors and can be positioned anywhere in its stroke with a stated accuracy of 0.03 mm, so the Z ram can stay short for stiffer cutting.

04 What tool shank does the MW-633 use?

BT-50, with CAT50, DIN and BBT50 as alternatives, on a #50 spindle. The tool magazine entry is A: 32 (40 / 62) pcs.
