Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Flex Machine Tools CM-20-02 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Flex Machine Tools CM-20-02 is a long-travel vertical machining center with 240″ of X, 24″ of Y and 17.5″ of Z, a CT40 spindle taper and a 16-tool automatic changer with tool calibrator. One thing is missing from its table: Flex gives no spindle speed or power for this model.
That gap is the first question for a buyer. The C-20-02 has the same travels, taper, tool capacity and rapids, and its table lists 6,000 RPM and 18 HP. Whether the CM-20-02 carries that spindle or a different one is not stated, so get the speed, power and torque in writing before comparing the two.
What the table does fix is the working space. Spindle-to-table distance runs from 5″ to 22.5″, and three integrated T-slot rails hold the work. With 17.5″ of Z, a fixture, the part and the tool have to fit inside that daylight together, which mostly affects tall weldments and long drills. The optional 4th axis comes with a 10″ or 16″ platter, a fixed table and a tailstock; the larger platter takes up more of the height available under the spindle.
Axis rapids are up to 1200 IPM in X, 1000 IPM in Y and 300 IPM in Z. Positioning accuracy is ±0.003 in for X and ±0.002 in for Y and Z; repeatability is ±0.0007 in for X and ±0.0005 in for Y and Z. The machine has a 90-gallon coolant tank and a chip auger, and is run from the Omron FlexCNC controller through a mobile control panel with a 22″ touch screen and a hand pendant (AMI5000 remote pendant). Flex lists X strokes from 10′ up to 50′ as available.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 240″ of X travel with 24″ of Y and 17.5″ of Z
- CT40 taper with a 16-tool automatic changer and tool calibrator
- Spindle-to-table distance ranges from 5″ to 22.5″
- Rapids of up to 1200 IPM in X and 1000 IPM in Y
- 90-gallon coolant tank, chip auger and three integrated T-slot rails
Limitations
- Flex's table gives no spindle speed or power for this model; the C-20-02 with the same travels lists 6,000 RPM and 18 HP
- Y travel is 24″, against 72″ on the G-20-06 and GM-20-06 with the same 240″ of X
- Z rapid is 300 IPM, well below the X and Y rates
- The 4th axis, with 10″ or 16″ platter, is an option

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table lists a CT40 spindle taper and a 16-tool automatic tool changer with tool calibrator. It does not list spindle speed or power. The C-20-02, which has the same travels and taper, lists 6,000 RPM and 18 HP, but that figure should not be assumed for the CM-20-02 without confirmation from Flex.
02
On the listed figures the two match: 240″ of X, 24″ of Y, 17.5″ of Z, CT40 taper, 16 tools and rapids of 1200, 1000 and 300 IPM. The C-20-02 table adds 6,000 RPM and 18 HP for the spindle; the CM-20-02 table leaves the spindle rating out. Ask Flex what distinguishes the CM model.
03
Spindle-to-table distance ranges from 5″ to 22.5″, which matches the 17.5″ of Z travel. Fixture height, part height and tool length all come out of that. Y travel is 24″, so the work envelope is long and narrow.
04
An optional 4th axis with either a 10″ platter or a 16″ platter, together with a fixed table and a tailstock. Rotary speed, torque and load figures for it are not in the table.
