How much does the Hartford SW-216 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford SW-216 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford SW-216 is the smallest of the SW box-guideway double-column machining centers, a line Hartford sells under the name SWORD. X travel is 2,100 mm (82.7 in), Y is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), and the table measures 2,000 x 1,450 mm (78.7 x 57.1 in) with a 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) load.
A bridge machine this size overlaps with large single-column verticals in travel. What it adds is the closed frame: two columns and a crossbeam carry the head over a table that only moves in X, so cutting forces have a short path into the base. Hartford uses three box guideways on the column and a slant crossbeam, and says the Z axis runs in a square guide.
The spindle is #50 and gear-driven, built by Hartford itself, at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm. Motor ratings are 15/18.5 kW with 18.5/22 kW and 22/26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min). Z travel is listed as 780 (1,070) mm, the figure in brackets being the longer version.
Two tool changers are named: an arm type with 32 tools, or 40 or 60, and an S type with 20. Box ways carry friction that linear guides do not, and Hartford's answer is a hybrid air suspension that it credits with 50% less quadrant error and 30% less backlash error.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 2,100 mm (82.7 in), Y travel 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and Z travel 780 mm, or 1,070 mm in the longer version. The table is 2,000 x 1,450 mm (78.7 x 57.1 in) and carries 7,000 kg (15,432 lb).
02
A #50 gear-driven spindle at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm. Hartford makes the gear head itself and describes it as giving great force output at low speed. The motor is 15/18.5 kW, optionally 18.5/22 kW or 22/26 kW.
03
Box guideways. Hartford lists the SW as a Double Column Machining Center (Box guideway), with 3 box guideways on the column and a hybrid air suspension that reduces quadrant error by 50% and backlash error by 30%.

The SW-316, which keeps the 1,600 mm (63.0 in) Y travel and extends X to 3,100 mm (122.0 in) over a 3,000 x 1,450 mm (118.1 x 57.1 in) table rated for 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
