Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Goodway GS-8600 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Between the two extremes of the series sits the Goodway GS-8600, with a Ø260 mm (10.2 in) hole through the spindle and an 800 rpm top speed. It is the middle choice for shops whose tube or hollow shafts are too large for the Ø205 mm (8.1 in) bore of the GS-8000.
The figure Ø260 mm also appears lower in Goodway's range, on the GS-6800. The difference is the machine wrapped around the bore. This model turns Ø970 mm (38.2 in) against the Ø880 mm (34.6 in) of the GS-6800, and it is available with beds up to 6,200 mm (244.1 in), where the GS-6800 stops at 3,300 mm (129.9 in).
Six beds, L to L6, step from 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z travel in even steps: 2,200 mm (86.6 in), 3,200 mm (126.0 in), 4,200 mm (165.4 in), 5,200 mm (204.7 in) and 6,200 mm. X-axis travel is 525 mm (20.7 in). The motor rating is 30 kW (40.2 hp) continuous, 45 kW (60.3 hp) for 15 min.
Goodway describes a cast iron base with a low center of gravity and over-sized, wide-span box ways on X and Z. Twelve tools are held on a servo-indexed turret. Options are a 12-station live tooling turret with ER50 collets at 3,000 rpm, a Cf-type C-axis with disk brake, and a Y-axis of ±160 mm (±6.3 in). The tailstock uses an MT#6 dead center in a Ø160 mm (6.3 in) built-in rotary quill.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Ø260 mm (10.2 in). The GS-8000 has Ø205 mm (8.1 in) and the GS-8800 has Ø320 mm (12.6 in). All three accept 18 in, 21 in, 24 in or 32 in chucks.
02
Both pass Ø260 mm (10.2 in) and both reach 800 rpm. The GS-8600 turns Ø970 mm (38.2 in) and the GS-6800 turns Ø880 mm (34.6 in). The GS-8600 also has a 45 kW (60.3 hp) 15 min. motor rating and an optional Y-axis, neither of which the GS-6800 table shows.
03
A programmable tailstock with an MT#6 dead center, a Ø160 mm (6.3 in) quill and 150 mm (5.9 in) of quill travel. Goodway describes the quill as a built-in rotary type. An automatic self-centering steady rest for workpieces up to Ø520 mm is also listed.
04
X-axis travel is 525 mm (20.7 in). Z-axis travel depends on the bed, from 1,200 mm (47.2 in) on the L bed to 6,200 mm (244.1 in) on the L6. The optional Y-axis travels ±160 mm (±6.3 in).
