Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Goodway GS-8800 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Goodway GS-8800 has the largest spindle bore of any slant-bed lathe in Goodway's lineup: a Ø320 mm (12.6 in) hole through the spindle. Goodway names that bore, together with ±160 mm (±6.3 in) of Y-axis travel, as the headline features of the GS-8000 series. Spindle speed is 700 rpm.
A bore of this size exists for one kind of part. Large pipe, drill collars and hollow forgings pass through the headstock so that only the end being machined sits in the work zone. The chuck can be 18 in, 21 in, 24 in or 32 in. Behind it is a 3-speed gearbox and a motor rated 45 kW (60.3 hp) for 15 min. and 30 kW (40.2 hp) continuous, good for 7,100 Nm of spindle torque by the maker's figure.
Work that does not pass through the spindle is held between chuck and tailstock on one of six beds. The shortest gives 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of turning length and the longest 6,200 mm (244.1 in). Diameter capacity is Ø970 mm (38.2 in) over a Ø1,030 mm (40.6 in) swing, with 525 mm (20.7 in) of X travel.
Goodway's Y variation is aimed at aerospace, shipbuilding and energy components that need milled features far from the centerline. The live tooling turret has 12 stations, ER50 collets and a 9 kW motor, and runs at 3,000 rpm. Expect 700 rpm to feel slow on anything much smaller than the bore; for such work the GS-8000, at 1,100 rpm, is the better model.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Ø320 mm (12.6 in) hole through spindle, the largest of the GS-8000 series
- 7,100 Nm of maximum spindle torque through a 3-speed gearbox, per Goodway
- Turning length up to 6,200 mm (244.1 in) and turning diameter of Ø970 mm (38.2 in)
- Optional Y-axis of ±160 mm (±6.3 in) with ER50 live tooling
- Automatic self-centering steady rest for workpieces up to Ø520 mm
Limitations
- 700 rpm maximum spindle speed, the lowest of the series
- Live tooling is limited to 3,000 rpm and is an option
- The tailstock center is an MT#6 dead center with 150 mm (5.9 in) of quill travel
- No sub-spindle variation is listed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The hole through the spindle is Ø320 mm (12.6 in). That compares with Ø260 mm (10.2 in) on the GS-8600 and Ø205 mm (8.1 in) on the GS-8000, which are otherwise the same machine.
02
700 rpm. The motor is rated 30 kW (40.2 hp) continuous and 45 kW (60.3 hp) for 15 min., and drives the spindle through a 3-speed gearbox with a stated maximum torque of 7,100 Nm.
03
Goodway lists chuck sizes of 18 in, 21 in, 24 in and 32 in for all three models of the series. Maximum turning diameter is Ø970 mm (38.2 in), or Ø910 mm (35.8 in) on machines with the Y-axis.
04
Two variations: M, with a 12-station live tooling turret and C-axis, and Y, which adds the Y-axis. Live tools use ER50 collets and run at 3,000 rpm. Goodway describes the C-axis as a Cf-axis with a disk brake system.
