How much does the Ecoca SJ-20 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Ecoca SJ-20 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Small, fast and steeply slanted: the Ecoca SJ-20 is a 6 in (152 mm) chuck turning center with a 6,000 rpm spindle on a 45 degree slant bed. Its turret has 8 stations, and the working envelope is 225 mm (8.9 in) in turning diameter by 320 mm (12.6 in) in turning length.
For a machine this size the motor is strong. Ecoca lists 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp), the same rating as the larger SL-8, behind a chuck that will mostly hold small-diameter parts. High speed with real power is what small-diameter turning in steel and stainless calls for, because surface speed falls with diameter and the spindle has to make up for it.
Ecoca describes the guideways as heavy-rigidity linear guide ways on the X and Z axes, fitted to increase cutting capacity, and the table row reads LINEAR. The 45 degree bed is credited with good chip disposal. The third point on the list is ergonomic: the machine is laid out so that the operator can work at it comfortably, which matters on a lathe that is loaded by hand many times an hour.
Note that swing over the cross slide and maximum turning diameter are the same figure here, 225 mm (8.9 in), within a 360 mm (14.2 in) swing over the bed. Weight is 3,300 kg (7,275 lb). Eight stations are enough for straightforward turned parts; for a longer tool list or milled features, the SJ-20MC has 12 stations and a 4,000 rpm milling speed in a slightly smaller envelope.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 6,000 rpm spindle with an 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp) motor on a 6 in (152 mm) chuck
- Heavy-rigidity linear guide ways on X and Z, as Ecoca describes them
- 45 degree slant bed for chip disposal
- Ergonomic layout for comfortable manual loading
- Turning diameter of 225 mm (8.9 in), larger than the 205 mm (8.1 in) of the SJ-20MC
Limitations
- Turret has 8 stations, the fewest of any Ecoca turret lathe
- Turning length is limited to 320 mm (12.6 in)
- No driven tools on this column
- Bar capacity, spindle bore and rapid traverse are not in the table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The spindle speed is listed as 6,000 rpm, with a spindle drive motor of 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp). The chuck size is 6 in (152 mm). Ecoca does not publish a torque figure or a spindle bore for the model.
02
8 stations. The standard accessories include an O.D. tool holder, facing tool holder, boring bar holder and sleeves, and drill sleeves. If 8 positions are too few, the SJ-20MC has a turret with 12 stations.
03
The SJ-20MC adds a milling speed of 4,000 rpm and has 12 stations, with a turning diameter of 205 mm (8.1 in) and a turning length of 300 mm (11.8 in). The SJ-20 has 8 stations and turns 225 mm (8.9 in) by 320 mm (12.6 in). Chuck, spindle, motor and weight are the same.
04
A 45 degree slant bed, which Ecoca says provides good chip disposal, with heavy-rigidity linear guide ways on the X and Z axes. Swing over the bed is 360 mm (14.2 in) and the machine weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb).
