Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Goodway GA-2800 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Bore is the reason to pick the Goodway GA-2800. It carries a 10 in big-bore chuck and passes Ø80 mm (3.1 in) bar, the largest bar capacity available on the smaller of the two GA frames, and it does so with the spindle limited to 3,500 rpm.
Everything around the spindle is shared with the GA-2000. Swing is Ø580 mm (22.8 in), maximum turning diameter Ø350 mm (13.8 in) and X travel 205 mm (8.1 in). The motor is rated 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous and 15 kW (20.1 hp) for 30 min. Because the bigger chuck takes up room in front of the spindle nose, usable length is a little shorter: 260 mm (10.2 in), 575 mm (22.6 in) or 1,155 mm (45.5 in) of turning length on Z travels of 350 mm (13.8 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) and 1,230 mm (48.4 in).
A buyer comparing this machine with the GA-3300 should look at turning diameter before bar size. The GA-3300 passes only slightly larger bar, Ø90 mm (3.5 in), but it turns Ø500 mm (19.7 in) and has an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous motor. If the parts are bar-fed and stay under Ø350 mm (13.8 in), the smaller frame does the job.
Goodway describes the GA ways as hand-scraped box ways. The standard turret has 10 or 12 stations. A 12-station live tooling turret with ER32 collets and a speed range of 40 ~ 4,000 rpm is optional, as are the C-axis and Y-axis that go with it. The tailstock quill is Ø70 mm (2.8 in) with an MT#4 live center.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Ø80 mm (3.1 in) bar capacity through a 10 in big-bore chuck on the compact GA frame
- Same 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous, 15 kW (20.1 hp) 30 min. motor as the GA-2000
- Hand-scraped box ways, as Goodway describes the GA series
- Three Z travels to choose from, up to 1,230 mm (48.4 in)
Limitations
- Spindle speed is capped at 3,500 rpm, against 4,500 rpm on the GA-2000
- Turning length is 260 mm (10.2 in) on the short bed, less than the 310 mm (12.2 in) of the GA-2000
- X travel is 205 mm (8.1 in); the GA-3300 has 260 mm (10.2 in)
- Live tooling turret, C-axis and Y-axis are options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Ø80 mm (3.1 in), through a 10 in big-bore chuck. The GA-2000, which shares the same frame, passes Ø65 mm (2.6 in), and the GA-3300 on the larger frame passes Ø90 mm (3.5 in).
02
Maximum spindle speed is 3,500 rpm. The motor is rated 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous and 15 kW (20.1 hp) on the 30 min. rating. The GA-2000 uses the same motor ratings with a smaller bore and runs to 4,500 rpm.
03
It depends on the bed. Goodway lists maximum turning lengths of 260 mm (10.2 in), 575 mm (22.6 in) and 1,155 mm (45.5 in). The corresponding Z-axis travels are 350 mm (13.8 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) and 1,230 mm (48.4 in).
04
With options. The M variation brings a 12-station live tooling turret (ER32, 40 ~ 4,000 rpm) and a C-axis. Off-center work needs the Y variation, which adds a Y-axis. Goodway's table for the GA series gives no Y-axis travel figure, so ask for it before quoting parts that depend on it.
