Overview

The ROMI C 1800H stands on a bed 1,400 mm (55 in) wide, nearly twice the width used on the models below it, and that bed is the reason it can take 30,000 kg (66,100 lbs) between centers. Swing over the bed is 1,800 mm (71 in). The operator works from a platform that runs with the machine.

Two carriage arrangements appear in the table. With the long cross slide the swing over it is 1,200 mm (47 in) and the cross travel 940 mm (37 in). In front of a short carriage the swing rises to 1,600 mm (63 in), which lets a large-diameter body sit closer to the bed swing limit when the tool only has to reach its outside.

The motor is the 114 hp / 84 kW unit also used on the C 1300H, but the gearing is different. Range I spans 1 to 168 rpm and the maximum torque allowed is 17,050 Nm; range II goes to 500 rpm. Among the four largest lathes this is the fast one, suited to parts whose diameter still allows useful speed.

Every bed length uses the rack and double pinion drive with a linear scale, so the Z rapid is 8 m/min (315 in/min) regardless of length. Five lengths are listed from 4 to 10 m between centers. The servo driven tailstock has a 290 mm (11.4 in) quill and an 85 x 60° built-in live center. At 4.0 m between centers the machine weighs about 44,000 kg (97,000 lbs), and each further 1,500 mm (59”) bed segment adds 4,000 kg (8,800 lbs).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Carries 30,000 kg (66,100 lbs) between centers at 50 rpm
  • Bed 1,400 mm (55 in) wide and 760 mm (30 in) high
  • Swing of 1,600 mm (63 in) in front of a short carriage
  • Z rapid of 8 m/min (315 in/min) on every bed length
  • Operator platform with front cover and electric locks

Limitations

  • Maximum torque of 17,050 Nm is below the 28,220 Nm of the C 2100H
  • Motor power is unchanged from the C 1300H at 114 hp / 84 kW
  • Spindle thru-hole is 305 mm (12 in)
  • About 44,000 kg (97,000 lbs) in the shortest version, so the foundation is a project of its own

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much weight can the ROMI C 1800H carry?

Maximum weight between centers is 30,000 kg (66,100 lbs) at 50 rpm with the ASA A2-20” spindle. The bed is 1,400 mm (55 in) wide. Other admissible weights can be offered on request, according to the catalogue.

02 What is the short carriage on the C 1800H?

The table gives two swing figures: 1,200 mm (47 in) over the cross slide of the long carriage and 1,600 mm (63 in) in front of the cross slide with a short carriage. Swing over the bed is 1,800 mm (71 in).

03 What are the speed ranges of the C 1800H?

The speed range is 1 to 500 rpm. Range I covers 1 to 168 rpm, where the maximum torque allowed of 17,050 Nm is available. The motor is 114 hp / 84 kW on the S2 - 30 min. rating and 82 hp / 60 kW continuous.

04 How does the C 1800H compare with the C 2100H?

They share bed, motor, tailstock and lengths. The C 2100H swings 2,150 mm (85 in) over the bed and is geared lower: a top speed of 300 rpm and 28,220 Nm of torque, where the C 1800H reaches 500 rpm with 17,050 Nm.
