Overview

The Goodway GA-2000 is the smallest spindle size in the GA series of box-way slant-bed turning centers: an 8 in big-bore chuck, Ø65 mm (2.6 in) of bar capacity and a 4,500 rpm spindle driven by an 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous motor, 15 kW (20.1 hp) on the 30 min. rating. Maximum turning diameter is Ø350 mm (13.8 in) under a Ø580 mm (22.8 in) swing.

Goodway builds it on three bed lengths. Z-axis travel is 350 mm (13.8 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) or 1,230 mm (48.4 in), and the matching maximum turning lengths are 310 mm (12.2 in), 625 mm (24.6 in) and 1,205 mm (47.4 in). X travel is 205 mm (8.1 in) on all three. The shortest bed has a fixed tailstock. On the longer two the tailstock base travels 550 mm (21.7 in) or 1,140 mm (44.9 in). The quill is Ø70 mm (2.8 in) with 150 mm (5.9 in) of stroke and takes an MT#4 live center.

The turret is servo-indexed with 10 or 12 stations, and Goodway quotes 0.5 seconds for a change to the opposite station. Milling is not part of the base machine. The M variation adds a 12-station live tooling turret with ER32 collets and a C-axis, and the Y variation adds a Y-axis on top of that.

Within the family, the GA-2800 keeps the same frame and motor but trades spindle speed for bore: Ø80 mm (3.1 in) of bar capacity at 3,500 rpm. The GA-3300 is the step up to the larger casting, with Ø500 mm (19.7 in) of turning diameter and an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) continuous motor.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,500 rpm is the highest spindle speed in the GA series, paired with Ø65 mm (2.6 in) of bar capacity
  • Three bed lengths on one spindle size: Z travel of 350 mm (13.8 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) or 1,230 mm (48.4 in)
  • Box-way construction, which Goodway positions for heavy-duty and interrupted turning
  • Servo-indexed turret with 10 or 12 stations; Goodway quotes 0.5 seconds to the opposite station

Limitations

  • Turning diameter stops at Ø350 mm (13.8 in); the GA-3300 and GA-3600 reach Ø500 mm (19.7 in)
  • Live tooling, C-axis and Y-axis come only with the M and Y variations, not on the base turret
  • The spindle motor is 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous, against 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) on the GA-3300
  • Neither the table nor the variation list for the GA series shows a sub-spindle

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bed lengths is the GA-2000 available in?

Three. Goodway lists Z-axis travel of 350 mm (13.8 in), 650 mm (25.6 in) or 1,230 mm (48.4 in), giving maximum turning lengths of 310 mm (12.2 in), 625 mm (24.6 in) and 1,205 mm (47.4 in). X travel is 205 mm (8.1 in) whichever bed is chosen.

02 Does the GA-2000 have live tooling?

Only as an option. The M variation has a 12-station live tooling turret with ER32 collets running 40 ~ 4,000 rpm, together with a C-axis. The Y variation adds a Y-axis. The base machine has a plain servo turret with 10 or 12 stations.

03 How does the GA-2000 differ from the GA-2800?

Chuck, bore and speed. The GA-2000 has an 8 in big-bore chuck, Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity and 4,500 rpm. The GA-2800 has a 10 in big-bore chuck, Ø80 mm (3.1 in) bar capacity and 3,500 rpm. Swing, turning diameter, X travel and the 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous motor are the same on both.

04 What tailstock does the GA-2000 use?

A programmable tailstock with a Ø70 mm (2.8 in) quill, 150 mm (5.9 in) of quill travel and an MT#4 live center. On the shortest bed the tailstock base is fixed; on the two longer beds it travels 550 mm (21.7 in) or 1,140 mm (44.9 in).
