Overview

BB stands for Big Bore, and the ROMI C 1300HBB is built around one number: a 575 mm (23 in) hole through the spindle. Romi replaces the usual spindle nose with a flat nose headstock so that large pipe, casing and tubular bodies can be passed through the machine and worked at the end.

The headstock is unlike any other in the heavy range. It has a single speed range of 1 to 350 rpm, with no low and high gear listed, and its maximum torque allowed is 5,075 Nm. The front bearing has an inner diameter of 660 mm (26 in) to make room for the bore. Power is still 114 hp / 84 kW, so the machine is geared for the surface speeds of large-diameter tube, not for the torque needed to rough a solid forging.

In every other respect it follows the C 1300H. Swing over the bed is 1,300 mm (51 in), swing over the cross slide 900 mm (35 in), cross travel 820 mm (32 in) and the bed 800 mm (31 in) wide. Parts of up to 22,000 kg (48,500 lbs) are carried between centers. The servo driven tailstock keeps its 290 mm (11.4 in) quill and built-in 80 x 60° live center, which matters when a long tube has to be supported on a plug at the far end.

Bed choice is narrow: 3.5 / 5 m (138 / 197 in) between centers, with a Z rapid of 5 m/min (197 in/min) on both. Floor space for the 3.5 m machine is 8.78 x 4.5 m (346 x 177 in). Installed power is 95 kVA and the control is a Siemens Sinumerik 840D.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the bore of the ROMI C 1300HBB?

The spindle thru-hole diameter is 575 mm (23 in), in a flat nose headstock whose front bearing has an inner diameter of 660 mm (26 in). The standard C 1300H has a 305 mm (12 in) thru-hole in an A2-20” spindle.

02 What speed and torque does the Big Bore headstock give?

The speed range is 1 to 350 rpm and the table shows no separate range I and range II for this model. Maximum torque allowed is 5,075 Nm. The main motor is 114 hp / 84 kW on the S2 - 30 min. rating, 82 hp / 60 kW continuous.

03 What sizes does the C 1300HBB come in?

Distance between centers is 3.5 / 5 m (138 / 197 in), with longitudinal travel of 3,605 / 5,105 mm (142 / 201 in). Swing over the bed is 1,300 mm (51 in) and over the cross slide 900 mm (35 in).

04 Is the C 1300HBB suited to solid shaft work?

It can carry 22,000 kg (48,500 lbs) between centers, but its 5,075 Nm of maximum torque is well under the 17,726 Nm of the C 1300H. For heavy roughing of solid parts the standard headstock is the stronger choice; the Big Bore is for hollow work.
