Overview

The VH-450 CNC is a bed-type CNC mill with two spindles, one vertical and one horizontal, both 50-taper and both rated 10 HP. It is not a machining center: there is no tool changer in the specification, and tools are clamped by an air power drawbar. What it offers is rigidity, a 59 x 17.7 in (1,500 x 450 mm) table that carries 2,200 lb (1,000 kg), and the ability to work a part from the top and from the side in one setup.

Axis travels are 43.3 in (1,100 mm) in X, 28.3 in (720 mm) in Y and 30.7 in (780 mm) in Z. The maker separately lists the cutting envelope as 43.3 in (1,100 mm) long, 16.5 in (420 mm) wide and 19.6 in (500 mm) high, and those are the figures to plan a job around. The vertical spindle nose reaches from 0 to 24.3 in (0 - 617 mm) above the table; the horizontal spindle nose from 0 to 30.7 in (0 - 780 mm).

Both spindles run 45 - 1,500 rpm with variable speed through a geared head whose gears are hardened and ground. That speed range and the NT50 or BT50 taper say what the machine is for: face mills, large drills and boring bars in steel and cast iron, not small end mills. Feeds and rapids share one range, 1 - 236 ipm (30 - 6,000 mm/min), driven by 1 HP (0.75 kW) motors on each axis.

The control is a Fanuc OiMF with a 10.4 in display, and lubrication is automatic. The machine weighs 8,818 lb (4,000 kg) net. It is the smallest of the three Ganesh vertical/horizontal CNC mills; the VH-650B CNC moves up to 15 HP spindles and a 4,409 lb (2,000 kg) table load.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does vertical/horizontal mean on the VH-450 CNC?

The machine has two spindles: a vertical one above the table and a horizontal one that approaches the part from the side. Each runs 45 - 1,500 rpm at 10 HP with an NT50 or BT50 taper. A part can be milled or bored from above and from the side without being moved to another machine.

02 What are the travels and the cutting envelope?

Axis travels are 43.3 in (1,100 mm), 28.3 in (720 mm) and 30.7 in (780 mm) in X, Y and Z. The cutting length is 43.3 in (1,100 mm), cutting width 16.5 in (420 mm) and cutting height 19.6 in (500 mm). The table is 59 x 17.7 in (1,500 x 450 mm) with 5 T-slots.

03 Does the VH-450 CNC have an automatic tool changer?

None is listed. The feature list names an air power drawbar as standard, which clamps and releases the 50-taper tool at the spindle, so tool changes are made by hand. Automatic lubrication and a Fanuc OiMF control with a 10.4 in display are also standard.

04 How heavy is it and how much room does it need?

Net weight is 8,818 lb (4,000 kg) and gross weight 9,920 lb (4,500 kg). Machine dimensions are 137.7 x 122 x 108.2 in (3,500 x 3,100 x 2,750 mm) in length, width and height. The table carries 2,200 lb (1,000 kg).
