Overview

The Fryer TC-120V is a vertical traveling column machining center with 120 in (3,048 mm) of X travel and a fixed 120 x 24 in (3,048 x 610 mm) table. Table load steps up here to 10,000 lb (4,536 kg), and it is the model Fryer pictures on its site in 5-axis form, with a tilting head.

That picture points at how configurable the series is. Fryer lists a standard or tilting head spindle, a built-in 24" or 32" flush rotary table, and a table mounted 4th axis with tailstock. On a 120 in table those can be combined: a rotary axis and tailstock at one end for shafts and extrusions, open table at the other for plate work, with a divider between the zones. The FANUC 31i B5 5 axis CNC upgrade on the options sheet belongs to the same picture.

In plain 3-axis form the figures are those of the series. Y and Z are 24 in (610 mm), or 32 in (813 mm) with the extended travel options. The spindle is CAT 40, 60 - 8,500 rpm, 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak, served by a 24 station arm type changer, with tools up to 13 in (330 mm) long.

The weight rises only a little from the TC-80V, to 34,000 lb (15,422 kg), while the operating width grows to 245 in (6,223 mm). X is still driven by a ballscrew and positioning accuracy stays at +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the Fryer TC-120V a 5-axis machine?

In standard form it is a 3-axis traveling column machine. Fryer lists a standard or tilting head spindle for the series, shows a TC-120V 5-Axis on its series page, and offers a FANUC 31i B5 5 axis CNC upgrade and 5th axis drive and wiring on the options sheet.

02 How much weight can the TC-120V table take?

10,000 lb (4,536 kg), evenly distributed, on a fixed table of 120 x 24 in (3,048 x 610 mm) with 5 T-slots 0.787 in (20 mm) wide. The TC-80V is rated 8,000 lb (3,629 kg).

03 What rotary options are there for the TC-120V?

Fryer's series page lists a built-in 24" or 32" flush rotary table and a table mounted 4th axis and tailstock. Because the table is fixed, a rotary unit and its cables stay in one place while the column travels to it.

04 What are the dimensions and weight of the TC-120V?

Operating dimensions are 245 x 138 x 118 in (6,223 x 3,505 x 2,997 mm) and the machine weighs 34,000 lb (15,422 kg). The table top is 38 in (965 mm) from the floor.
