Feeler VDX-850 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler VDX-850 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Feeler VDX-850 is a mold-oriented vertical machining center: 15,000 rpm direct-drive spindle, 850 mm (33.5 in) of X travel, and a deep 650 mm (25.6 in) Y axis. Z travel is 635 mm (25.0 in). It is the shortest of the three VDX models, which differ only in X.

Depth is the design idea. Feeler says the 650 mm Y-axis throat depth lets the machines take larger mold workpieces, integrate a fourth axis, and leave space for 4/5-axis setups and fixtures. On this model Y is more than three-quarters of X, so the envelope is close to square, the shape of a typical mold insert or cavity block and of a tilting rotary table.

The table is 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in), the same one fitted to the VDX-1100, and it is rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). The table is therefore considerably longer than the X stroke. That gives room to leave a rotary table bolted at one end, outside the cutting area for three-axis jobs, but it also means the spindle cannot reach the outer ends of the table.

For finishing, Feeler lists STC+ (Smooth Tolerance Control) as included on the series and an oil-air spindle lubrication system as an option. Rapids are 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on X and Y and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on Z, and the magazine holds 24 tools. The spindle taper is 7/24 No.40. No power or torque figure is given on the page.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 15,000 rpm direct-drive spindle for small-tool finishing of mold surfaces
  • 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y travel on an 850 mm X machine, with room for 4/5-axis setups according to Feeler
  • 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) table load in a compact footprint class
  • STC+ (Smooth Tolerance Control) is included on the series
  • 635 mm (25.0 in) of Z travel for tall blocks and tilting tables

Limitations

  • X travel of 850 mm reaches only part of the 1,200 mm table length
  • Oil-air spindle lubrication is listed as optional, not standard
  • 24 tools may be tight for long mold programs with many finishing cutters
  • No spindle power or torque figure on the series page

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Feeler VDX-850?

850 mm (33.5 in) in X, 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and 635 mm (25.0 in) in Z. The table is 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) and carries up to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb).

02 Why is the table longer than the X travel?

Feeler's table lists the same 1,200 x 600 mm table for the VDX-850 and the VDX-1100, so the VDX-850 has more table than stroke. The practical use is parking a fourth-axis unit at one end. Anything that must be cut has to sit within the 850 mm of travel.

03 What spindle does the VDX-850 have?

A 15,000 rpm high-speed direct-drive spindle with a 7/24 taper No.40. Feeler says it delivers full power directly to the spindle end, and offers an oil-air lubrication system as an option to extend spindle life.

04 What is the STC+ function on the VDX-850?

Feeler describes STC+ (Smooth Tolerance Control) as intelligent compensation that improves surface finish quality and reduces machining time, and says the VDX series includes it. The page gives no further detail on the control it runs on.
