Feeler VDX-1100 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler VDX-1100 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

In the middle of Feeler's high-speed mold range, the VDX-1100 pairs 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of X travel with a 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) table, so stroke and table length nearly match. Y travel is 650 mm (25.6 in) and Z is 635 mm (25.0 in).

Speed at the tool is the reason to choose a VDX over Feeler's other machines of this size. The spindle is a direct-drive unit running to 15,000 rpm on a 7/24 No.40 taper. The VMX-1100, with nearly the same travels, lists 12,000 rpm. For hardened mold steel finished with small-diameter cutters, the extra speed converts directly into feed rate at a given chip load. The Z rapid is also higher, 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) here, with 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on X and Y.

Y travel exceeds the 600 mm table depth. A cutter can therefore leave the part completely at the front and back of a full-depth mold base, and a fixture can overhang slightly without losing coverage. Table load is 1,500 kg (3,307 lb).

Feeler states that the series includes STC+ (Smooth Tolerance Control) to improve surface finish and reduce machining time, and that an oil-air lubrication system for the spindle is optional. The structure has a reinforced A-frame column base. There are 24 tool pockets. As with the rest of the range, spindle power is absent from the published table.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 15,000 rpm direct-drive spindle, against 12,000 rpm on the similarly sized VMX-1100
  • X travel of 1,100 mm nearly covers the 1,200 mm table
  • 650 mm of Y travel over a 600 mm deep table allows full-depth facing
  • 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) Z rapid and 36 m/min on X and Y
  • 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) table load for mold bases

Limitations

  • No.40 taper only, so heavy roughing of large molds is not its strength
  • The magazine holds 24 tools, with no larger option shown in the table
  • Oil-air lubrication for the spindle is an extra, per Feeler
  • Power, torque and machine weight are not published on the series page

Best For

Mold bases and cavity plates up to 1,100 x 650 mm Finishing hardened steel with small cutters at high spindle speed Automotive and aerospace parts needing good surface finish Jobs that add a fourth axis within a 635 mm Z stroke

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size mold fits the Feeler VDX-1100?

The cutting envelope is 1,100 x 650 x 635 mm (43.3 x 25.6 x 25.0 in) and the table is 1,200 x 600 mm, rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Daylight under the spindle is not given in the table, so check block height plus tool length with the maker's drawing.

02 How does the VDX-1100 compare with the VMX-1100?

The VMX-1100 lists 1,100 x 610 x 600 mm travels, 12,000 rpm and a Z rapid of 24 m/min. The VDX-1100 lists 650 mm of Y, 635 mm of Z, 15,000 rpm and a Z rapid of 30 m/min. Table size, the 1,500 kg rating and the 24-tool magazine are the same.

03 Is the spindle direct drive?

Yes. Feeler describes a 15,000 rpm high-speed direct-drive spindle that delivers full power directly to the spindle end. The taper is 7/24 No.40. An oil-air lubrication system is available as an option.

04 Can a fourth or fifth axis be fitted?

Feeler says the 650 mm Y-axis throat depth lets the machines flexibly integrate a fourth axis and provides space for 4/5-axis setups and fixtures. The series page does not list specific rotary tables, so the unit and its interface are a matter for the quotation.
