Overview

The Fidia VSE 1468 is the larger of the two VSE high-speed vertical machining centres: 1,350 mm (53.1 in) of X, 620 mm (24.4 in) of Y and 810 mm (31.8 in) of Z, over a 1,560 x 620 mm (61.4 x 24.4 in) table rated for 1,200 kg (2,645.5 lbs).

The tall Z is its distinguishing figure. On the VSE 1066 the 810 mm (31.8 in) stroke is an option; here it is standard, with the spindle-to-table distance running from 80 mm ~ 890 mm (3.1 ~ 35 in). That suits deep cavities and tall die sets, at the cost of a slower Z: axis feed rates are 30/30/24 m/min.

At 13,000 kg (28,660 lbs) it weighs far more than the VSE 1066, which is listed at 7,000 kg (15,432.3 lbs). Fidia describes a meehanite iron casting structure with an oversized box-type column and four-row roller guideways on all three axes.

Spindle and tooling match the smaller machine: direct coupling, 15,000 rpm, ISO 40 (or BT#40), 20/53 kW and 96/250 Nm (S1/S6 40%), with 18,000, 24,000 and 30,000 rpm electrospindles optional. The 24-position swing arm changer handles tools up to 125/300 mm - 15 kg. Power required is 25 kVA and floor space is about 5,500 x 2,700 x 3,200 mm (216.5 x 106.2 x 125.9 in).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 810 mm (31.8 in) of Z travel as standard
  • 1,560 x 620 mm (61.4 x 24.4 in) table carrying 1,200 kg (2,645.5 lbs)
  • 13,000 kg (28,660 lbs) of machine weight behind a 3-axis C-frame
  • Same 15,000 rpm direct-coupled spindle with 20/53 kW as the VSE 1066

Limitations

  • Z feed rate is 24 m/min against 30 m/min in X and Y
  • Y travel of 620 mm (24.4 in) is barely more than the 610 mm (24 in) of the VSE 1066
  • Needs 25 kVA and about 5,500 x 2,700 x 3,200 mm (216.5 x 106.2 x 125.9 in) of floor space

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the Fidia VSE 1468 differ from the VSE 1066?

It is longer, taller and heavier. The VSE 1066 has 1,020 mm (40.1 in) of X and an 850 kg (1,873.9 lbs) table load, against 1,350 mm (53.1 in) and 1,200 kg (2,645.5 lbs) here. Z travel of 810 mm (31.8 in) is standard on this model, and the spindle is the same.

02 What is the Z clearance of the VSE 1468?

Z travel is 810 mm (31.8 in) and the spindle to table top distance is 80 mm ~ 890 mm (3.1 ~ 35 in). Fidia notes that this distance may change according to the spindle type, so confirm it for the spindle you choose.

03 Which tools can the VSE 1468 changer handle?

The swing arm automatic tool changer has 24 positions and takes tools up to 125/300 mm - 15 kg (diameter/length - weight). Tool change is 3/10 sec tool to tool/chip to chip. A swing arm changer with 32/40 positions is listed among the main options.

04 What does the VSE 1468 weigh?

Machine net weight is 13,000 kg (28,660 lbs). Floor space is about 5,500 x 2,700 x 3,200 mm (216.5 x 106.2 x 125.9 in), L x W x H, and the floor to table top height is 900 mm (35.4 in).
