Overview

A 1,500 x 600 mm (59.1 x 23.6 in) table on box ways: the Feeler VBX-1300 is the long version of the smallest VBX frame. X travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in), Y is 610 mm (24.0 in) and Z is 600 mm (23.6 in).

Buyers usually arrive at this model from one of two directions. Some have a linear-guide machine of similar size and find it chatters on heavy cuts in tool steel or on welded parts with hard spots. Others run an older box way mill and want the same feel with a tool changer and modern control. For both, the points that count are the ones Feeler lists: extra-wide box ways on all three axes, guideways that are heat treated, precision ground and coated with Turcite B, and a Meehanite cast iron body.

The table rating is 1,300 kg (2,866 lb). It did not grow with the table, so it is the same figure as on the shorter VBX-1100, and heavier work moves to the VBX-1400 at 1,500 kg. Rapids are 24 m/min (945 ipm) on X, Y and Z, and the magazine holds 24 tools.

Spindle choice follows the header, VBX-1300 (#40/50): a 7/24 taper in No.40 or No.50, with speeds given as 10,000/4,000 rpm. Decide by tooling. Face mills, large indexable drills and boring heads want the No.50 spindle; a shop finishing with small end mills gives up too much at 4,000 rpm. Feeler publishes no torque figure for either.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X travel on a 1,500 mm long table
  • Box ways on all three axes with Turcite B coating
  • No.40 or No.50 spindle taper offered on the same machine
  • 24 m/min (945 ipm) rapids, the fastest of the VBX series
  • Automatic lubrication of the feed screw system, per Feeler

Limitations

  • 1,300 kg (2,866 lb) table load, no higher than the shorter VBX-1100
  • Y travel of 610 mm; the VBX-1400 offers 800 mm
  • Box way rapids are slow next to linear-guide machines of this size
  • Neither spindle has a published power or torque rating

Best For

Tool steel and hard weldments that chatter on lighter machines Long die plates and rails up to 1,300 mm Shops replacing an older box way mill Heavy drilling and boring with No.50 tooling

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the specifications of the Feeler VBX-1300?

Travels of 1,300 x 610 x 600 mm (51.2 x 24.0 x 23.6 in), a 1,500 x 600 mm table rated 1,300 kg (2,866 lb), a 7/24 Taper No.40/No.50 spindle at 10,000/4,000 rpm, rapids of 24 m/min on all axes and 24 tools.

02 Why choose box ways over linear guides?

Feeler says the extra-wide box way construction enhances cutting performance and reduces cycle time in heavy duty cutting. The general trade is damping and load capacity in exchange for speed: this machine rapids at 24 m/min where Feeler's linear-guide VMX-1300 lists 36 m/min on X and Y.

03 Which is better for my work, No.40 or No.50?

It depends on tool size. The table lists 10,000/4,000 rpm for No.40/No.50. Large cutters and heavy roughing suit the No.50 spindle at 4,000 rpm, while small tools need the speed of the No.40. Ask Feeler for both torque curves, since none is published.

04 What is the next larger VBX?

The VBX-1400, a larger frame with 1,400 x 800 x 700 mm travels, a 1,650 x 800 mm table and 1,500 kg of load, and with lower rapids of 20 m/min on X and Y and 18 m/min on Z.
