Overview

Fourteen tonnes on a four-metre table: the Feeler SVW-4217 is listed with a 14 ton load, a 4,000 × 1,400 mm (157.5 × 55.1 in) table and 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel.

The load figure is the interesting one. The SVW-3217, a metre shorter, is rated at 10 ton, so this last step in length brings a larger rise in capacity than the earlier ones. It is also nearly the rating of the widest machines: the SVW-4222 carries 15 ton.

For parts that are long and heavy but not wide, such as machine beds, press frames and large die shoes, the narrower gantry is worth considering before the wider ones. It keeps the span across the table shorter.

X rapid is 12 m/min (472 ipm); Y and Z are 15 m/min (591 ipm). The spindle rows repeat across the series: 6,000 rpm, BT/DIN/CAT 50, two-speed geared drive, with 8,000-15,000 rpm and #40 in brackets. Z is 800 mm (31.5 in) or the bracketed 1,000 mm (39.4 in).

For a table this long, tool count deserves thought. One long setup can hold several parts or many features, and the 60-tool magazine at the top of the 24 (32/40/60) row avoids stopping to reload. The optional automatic attachment change system serves the same goal for the heads.
