Feeler VMP-50 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler VMP-50 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

A 1,420 x 600 mm (55.9 x 23.6 in) table rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb), 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X travel and the option of a No.50 spindle: the Feeler VMP-50 is the VMP series' machine for long, heavy steel parts. Y travel is 610 mm (24.0 in) and Z is 600 mm (23.6 in).

Like the VMP-45, it is listed with a 7/24 taper in No.40 or No.50, a spindle speed of 10,000/4,000 rpm and a tool capacity of 22/24. Read in order, that gives a 10,000 rpm No.40 version with 22 tools and a 4,000 rpm No.50 version with 24. Feeler's page does not label the pairs, so have the configuration written into the offer.

How should the two be weighed on a machine this long? Parts that fill a 1,300 mm stroke are often plates, rails, mold bases and fabricated frames, where large-diameter face mills and long boring tools do most of the metal removal. That is 50-taper territory, and 4,000 rpm is adequate for it. A shop cutting mostly aluminium or finishing with small ball-nose tools is better served by the No.40 spindle, or by the VMX-1300, which lists 12,000 rpm on the same travels.

Rapid traverse is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on X and Y and 24 m/min (945 ipm) on Z. The series is described by Feeler as a high-rigidity cast iron design with hardened linear guides and Turcite B wear pads, meant to stay accurate through extended operation.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X travel with a 1,420 x 600 mm table
  • No.40 or No.50 spindle taper listed for the same frame
  • 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) maximum table load
  • 610 mm of Y and 600 mm of Z travel
  • Hardened linear guides with Turcite B wear pads named for the series

Limitations

  • The 4,000 rpm figure limits the second spindle to large tools
  • Tool capacity is 22/24, which long programs on large parts can exhaust
  • Z rapid of 24 m/min (945 ipm) is two-thirds of the X and Y rate
  • Which speed and tool count belong to which taper is not labelled in the table

Best For

Long steel plates, rails and frames up to 1,500 kg Mold bases up to 1,300 x 610 mm Heavy face milling and boring with No.50 tooling General work on large parts with the No.40 spindle at 10,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle options does the Feeler VMP-50 have?

The table header is VMP-50 (#40/50) with a 7/24 Taper No.40/No.50. Spindle speed is given as 10,000/4,000 rpm. The order suggests 10,000 rpm for No.40 and 4,000 rpm for No.50, but the page does not state it, and no power or torque is published.

02 How big is the table and what can it carry?

1,420 x 600 mm (55.9 x 23.6 in) with a maximum loading weight of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Travels are 1,300 x 610 x 600 mm, so Y covers the table depth and X stops short of the table ends.

03 What is the next size up?

The VMP-65, with 1,650 x 800 x 800 mm travels and a 1,700 x 800 mm table at the same 1,500 kg rating. The VMP-65 is listed with a No.40 taper at 10,000 rpm and 22 tools only, so the No.50 option ends with the VMP-50.

04 How fast are the rapids?

36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on X and Y, and 24 m/min (945 ipm) on Z. Feeler's series text gives a range of 24–48 m/min for the VMP family; the top of that range is not reached by any axis in this model's column.
