Sharp KMA-3H-CNC — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Sharp KMA-3H-CNC that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Sharp or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

With the Sharp KMA-3H-CNC the twin-spindle KMA bed mill moves onto a heavier base. The Y axis rides on four ways instead of two, listed as 3.94+2.95+3.94+2.95 in across a 43.31 in (1100 mm) spacing, and electrical demand rises to 30 kVA from the 25 kVA of the KMA-2H-CNC.

The wider saddle support goes with longer strokes: 66.93 in (1700 mm) in X, 41.34 in (1050 mm) in Y and 37.4 in (950 mm) in Z. The table measures 86.61 x 23.62 in (2200 x 600 mm) and takes 4410 lb (2000 kg). Under the vertical spindle the nose-to-table distance is 0-29.53 in (0-750 mm).

How the machine is used follows from the head. A vertical and a horizontal NT50 spindle are driven by separate motors, each through an 18-step gearhead running 45 rpm to 1,500 rpm. A part clamped once can be faced from above, then milled or bored from the side, and with the optional indexer or rotary table the remaining sides come round to the horizontal spindle.

Sharp's page is not clear on spindle power for this size. The table and the feature text give different figures, so this page states none; ask for the motor rating of each spindle. Weight is 16535 lb (7500 kg) and height 125.2 in (3180 mm).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Four Y-axis ways across a 43.31 in (1100 mm) spacing
  • 66.93 in (1700 mm) of X and 41.34 in (1050 mm) of Y travel
  • 86.61 x 23.62 in (2200 x 600 mm) table for 4410 lb (2000 kg)
  • Vertical and horizontal NT50 spindles driven by separate motors
  • Up to 29.53 in between spindle nose and table

Limitations

  • Spindle motor rating is not stated consistently on Sharp's page
  • Needs a 30 kVA electrical supply, more than the 25 kVA of the KMA-2H-CNC
  • Manual tool changes on both spindles
  • Sharp's repeatability and floor space rows do not agree between inch and metric

Best For

Large housings and frames worked from the top and the side Parts up to 66.93 in long and 4410 lb Boring and facing with the horizontal spindle Heavy cuts that load the saddle, on a four-way Y axis

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the KMA-3H-CNC heavier-built than the KMA-2H-CNC?

The Y axis. On the KMA-2H-CNC it has two ways, 4.72+4.72 in at 28.35 in spacing; on the KMA-3H-CNC it has four, 3.94+2.95+3.94+2.95 in at 43.31 in spacing. The KMA-3H-CNC weighs 16535 lb (7500 kg) against 13,200 lb (5987 kg) for the KMA-2H-CNC.

02 What are the travels and table size of the KMA-3H-CNC?

Travels are 66.93 in (1700 mm) in X, 41.34 in (1050 mm) in Y and 37.4 in (950 mm) in Z. The table area is 86.61 x 23.62 in (2200 x 600 mm), 33.66 in (855 mm) from the floor, with a maximum workpiece weight of 4410 lb (2000 kg).

03 What is the spindle power of the KMA-3H-CNC?

It cannot be stated from Sharp's page with confidence: the specification table and the feature text print different motor ratings for this model. What is consistent is the NT50 taper on both spindles and the speed range of 45-1500 rpm in 18 steps.

04 Does the KMA-3H-CNC have an automatic tool changer?

No. Sharp states that there is no Automatic Tool Change (ATC) on the KMA-H machines. A power drawbar with foot pedal control is on the optional accessory list, and a draw-in bolt is supplied as standard.
