Overview

Feeler's SVW-2817 has a table 2,600 mm (102.4 in) long and 1,400 mm (55.1 in) wide, with 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of X travel. That length does not exist on the narrowest SVW table, where sizes jump from two metres to three. Here it fills the gap between the SVW-2217 and the SVW-3217.

In-between sizes matter on gantry machines because floor space and foundation grow with X. A shop whose longest part is two and a half metres does not have to give up floor area for a three-metre table. The load rating is 9 ton, between the 8 ton of the SVW-2217 and the 10 ton of the SVW-3217.

It is also the longest model in its width that keeps the X rapid at 15 m/min (591 ipm); the SVW-3217 is listed at 12 m/min. Y and Z are 15 m/min as well.

The series is built for heavy cutting, in Feeler's words, around a box-type structure with reinforced ribs. Each table goes through multi-step precision milling before assembly, a detail the maker gives to explain alignment. The spindle is geared, 6,000 rpm on a BT/DIN/CAT 50 taper, with 8,000-15,000 rpm and #40 as the bracketed alternative. Z travel is 800 mm (31.5 in), or 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in brackets, and the magazine holds 24 tools with 32, 40 or 60 optional.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 2,600 × 1,400 mm (102.4 × 55.1 in) table, a length between the two- and three-metre sizes
  • 9 ton table load, above the 8 ton of the SVW-2217
  • X rapid of 15 m/min (591 ipm), where the SVW-3217 has 12 m/min
  • Up to 60 tools in the largest magazine option

Limitations

  • All rapids are 15 m/min (591 ipm), well under the 24 m/min of the SVW-2113
  • Standard Z travel is 800 mm (31.5 in); 1,000 mm is the bracketed alternative
  • No Y travel, power or weight data on this page

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Where does the SVW-2817 sit in the SVW range?

In the 1,400 mm table width, between the SVW-2217 (2,000 mm table, 8 ton) and the SVW-3217 (3,000 mm table, 10 ton). Its own table is 2,600 mm long and rated for 9 ton.

02 What are the rapid traverse rates?

15 m/min (591 ipm) on X, Y and Z alike. That is the top X rate in this width class: the two longer models, including the SVW-3217, are listed at 12 m/min (472 ipm) on X.

03 What does Feeler say about the table?

Two things. The table is supported over its full travel, which eliminates overhang, and each table undergoes multi-step precision milling prior to assembly to minimize alignment errors. The table itself is 2,600 × 1,400 mm with a 9 ton rating.

04 Which spindle should be chosen?

The listed spindle is 6,000 rpm on BT/DIN/CAT 50 with a two-speed geared drive, the one matched to heavy cutting. The bracketed 8,000-15,000 rpm range with #40 suits lighter, faster work. Feeler's table does not give power or torque for either.
