Feeler FDM-7232 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler FDM-7232 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

With 7,200 mm (283.5 in) of X travel and 3,100 mm (122.0 in) of Y, the Feeler FDM-7232 carries 27 ton on a 7,000 × 2,600 mm (275.6 × 102.4 in) table. The bracketed load is 30 ton, the highest figure anywhere in the FDM table.

A machine this large spends most of its hours roughing. Feeler's argument for the FDM is that enlarged spindle head and slide contact surfaces allow larger diameter tools, improving material removal rates and reducing cycle time. On a mould block of several tonnes, where most of the steel leaves as chips, removal rate decides the delivery date more than finishing speed does.

The spindle rows are short on detail. Speed is 6,000 rpm with 4,000-8,000 rpm in brackets, and the taper is BT/DIN/CAT 50 with #40 in brackets. Reading the two rows together, the lower end of the bracketed range would suit a high-torque 50-taper spindle and the upper end the lighter taper, but the table does not pair them, and it gives no power or torque. For a roughing machine those are the first figures to request.

X travel sits at the figure Feeler quotes for its drive change: rack and pinion with a reduction gearbox is stated for X-axis travel over 7200 mm, so whether this model has it should be confirmed. X and Z rapids are 12 m/min (472 ipm) and Y is 15 m/min (591 ipm). Z travel is 800 mm (31.5 in), or 1,000-1,400 mm. The magazine is 24 tools, or 32-90.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Listed load of 27 ton, with 30 ton as the bracketed figure
  • 7,000 × 2,600 mm (275.6 × 102.4 in) table with 3,100 mm of Y travel
  • Structure designed around larger diameter tools and high removal rates
  • Magazine range from 24 to 90 tools

Limitations

  • No spindle power or torque published for a machine aimed at roughing
  • X travel of exactly 7,200 mm leaves the drive type unclear
  • X and Z rapids of 12 m/min (472 ipm)

Best For

Heavy roughing of large mould blocks Moulds and bases up to 7,000 mm long and 27 ton Long tools with side features needing 3,100 mm of Y

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much can the Feeler FDM-7232 carry?

27 ton as listed, 30 ton in brackets. The longer FDM-8232 is listed at 30 ton with no bracket, so 30 ton appears to be the ceiling for the series.

02 What is known about the spindle?

Only speed and taper: 6,000 rpm with 4,000-8,000 rpm bracketed, and BT/DIN/CAT 50 with #40 bracketed. Feeler adds that the head is built to take larger diameter tools. Motor power, torque and the drive type are not on the series page.

03 Does it have a rack and pinion drive?

Feeler states that for X-axis travel over 7200 mm a rack and pinion drive with reduction gearbox is used. The FDM-7232 has exactly 7,200 mm of X travel, so the statement does not clearly include it. Confirm with the maker.

04 How does it compare with the FDM-7228?

The tables are identical at 7,000 × 2,600 mm. The FDM-7228 lists 2,700 (3,300) mm of Y travel and 24 (27) ton; the FDM-7232 lists 3,100 (3,700) mm and 27 (30) ton.
