Overview

Seven tonnes on the table: the Emco MMV 5200 is rated for 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) over a clamping area of 5420x1050 mm, with the column travelling 5,200 mm (204.7 in) in X. In the MMV series every extra metre of bed brings another step in load, and this model is the second longest.

Load and length decide what the machine is used for. Welded frames, long castings and steel plates fit on the fixed table without any of the weight having to be moved by an axis, because the column moves and the part stays still. That is the advantage of the travelling-column layout over a moving-table machine once parts get heavy.

Machining is done by a motor spindle head listed in the table as 50-18000/50-10000 rpm with 125 Nm (S1), 170 Nm (S6-40%). Clearance is 0-980 (950) mm (vertical) / 250 (280) - 1230 mm (horizontal). Y and Z travel 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and 980 mm (38.6 in). The magazine is listed as 40 (60/120), and Emco describes the tool magazine systems as flexibly configurable. Tool diameter is 92 (125) mm.

The equipment list quotes a 50-15000 rpm motor spindle with 46 kW, which differs from the table row, so the spindle should be pinned down when ordering. Rapids are 60/50/50 m/min. Overall dimensions are 10,615 x 5,350 x 3,580 mm (417.9 x 210.6 x 140.9 in) and the weight is 33,000 kg (72,751 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) table load on a fixed table
  • 5420x1050 mm clamping area with 5,200 mm (204.7 in) of X travel
  • Rapids of 60/50/50 m/min in X/Y/Z
  • Integrated round table and B axis with torque motors
  • Magazine choices of 40 (60/120) stations

Limitations

  • Machine weight of 33,000 kg (72,751 lb) and overall dimensions of 10,615 x 5,350 x 3,580 mm (417.9 x 210.6 x 140.9 in) call for foundation planning
  • Y travel remains 1,000 mm (39.4 in)
  • Torque of 125 Nm (S1), 170 Nm (S6-40%) limits heavy roughing of large steel parts
  • Spindle speed is stated differently in the table and the equipment list

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What load can the MMV 5200 table carry?

The maximum table load is 7,000 kg (15,432 lb), on a clamping area of 5420x1050 mm. Because the column travels and the table is fixed, that weight is never moved by the X axis.

02 What are the travels of the MMV 5200?

X is 5,200 mm (204.7 in), Y 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and Z 980 mm (38.6 in). Spindle nose clearance is listed as 0-980 (950) mm (vertical) / 250 (280) - 1230 mm (horizontal).

03 How many tools does it hold?

The tool change row reads 40 (60/120), and Emco's equipment list describes a tool magazine with 40-120 places. Maximum tool diameter is 92 (125) mm.

04 How does the MMV 5200 differ from the MMV 6200?

The MMV 6200 is the longest model, with 6,200 mm (244.1 in) of X travel and an 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) table load. The MMV 5200 travels 5,200 mm (204.7 in) and carries 7,000 kg (15,432 lb).
