Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Emco MMV 3200 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Emco MMV 3200 is a travelling-column machining centre with 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of X travel over a fixed table of 3500x1050 mm. It is the shortest of four MMV lengths. The column carries a swivelling head, which is why the spindle clearance is given twice: 0-950 mm (vertical) / 250 - 1200 mm (horizontal).
That head is the centre of the design. Emco lists the machine as available in 4 or 5 axes versions, with an integrated round table and a B axis driven by torque motors. With the spindle vertical the machine works like a long-bed vertical machining centre; swung horizontal it reaches the sides and ends of long parts. Profiles, beams, machine frames and long mould plates are the natural work.
The spindle row reads 50-18000/50-10000 rpm and torque is 125 Nm (S1), 170 Nm (S6-40%). Emco's equipment list separately names a main spindle of 15000 U/min with 46 kW, so the spindle fitted to a given machine should be confirmed in the quotation. Tools up to 92 (125) mm in diameter are held in a magazine listed as 40/60-120.
Y travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and Z 950 mm (37.4 in). The axes run on roller guideways with direct-driven ball screws at up to 50 m/min (1,968 ipm). The table carries 5,000 kg (11,023 lb). The machine measures 8,414 x 5,026 x 3,458 mm (331.3 x 197.9 x 136.1 in) and weighs 24,000 kg (52,910 lb); controls are Heidenhain or Siemens.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of X travel over a 3500x1050 mm table
- Head works vertically or horizontally: 0-950 mm (vertical) / 250 - 1200 mm (horizontal)
- Available as 4 or 5 axes version with integrated round table and B axis
- Rapids up to 50 m/min (1,968 ipm)
- Tool magazine of 40/60-120 stations
Limitations
- Y travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) whatever the X length
- Spindle torque of 125 Nm (S1), 170 Nm (S6-40%) is sized for speed more than heavy roughing
- Table and equipment list state different spindle speeds, so the specification needs confirming
- Needs 8,414 x 5,026 x 3,458 mm (331.3 x 197.9 x 136.1 in) of floor

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A travelling-column machining centre: the table is fixed and the column moves along X. Travels are 3,200 mm (126.0 in), 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and 950 mm (37.4 in), and the machine is offered in 4 or 5 axes versions with an integrated round table and B axis.
02
The spindle nose distance is given for both orientations, 0-950 mm (vertical) / 250 - 1200 mm (horizontal), which shows the head can be used vertically and horizontally.
03
The maximum table load is 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) on a clamping area of 3500x1050 mm. Long parts should be supported along their length, since the load figure covers the whole table and not a single point on it.
04
Length, mainly. The MMV 4200 has 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel, a 4500x1050 mm table and a 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) load rating. The MMV 3200 has 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of X and weighs 24,000 kg (52,910 lb).
