Overview
The Emco Maxxmill 630 is a compact vertical machining centre for 5-sided machining in a single set-up. A swivel-rotary table of 630x500 mm sits under a moving-column spindle, with travels of 500+50 mm in X, 460 mm (18.1 in) in Y and 450 mm (17.7 in) in Z. Emco notes that the machine is now also available in a 3-axis version.
Five-sided is the operative word. The table tilts and rotates to present each face of the part to the spindle, and the cutting is then done with the three linear axes. That suits prismatic parts with features on several sides, the sort of work that would otherwise need three or four clampings on a 3-axis machine. For fully simultaneous 5-axis contouring Emco positions the UMILL 630 above it on the same travels.
Two spindles are listed. The mechanical spindle runs 50-12000 rpm with 15 kW (20.1 hp) and 100 Nm (73.8 lb-ft), both S6 ratings. The water-cooled motor spindle, described by Emco as an option, runs 50-15000 rpm with 20 kW (26.8 hp) and the same torque. The tool changer has 30 stations, optionally 60.
Table load is 200 kg (441 lb), and that figure includes the fixture, so heavy vises eat into it quickly. Rapids are 30/30/30 m/min and working feed 15/15/15 m/min. The machine weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) and is offered with a Siemens or Heidenhain control.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 5-sided machining in one set-up on a 630x500 mm swivel-rotary table
- Choice of mechanical spindle (50-12000 rpm) or motor spindle (50-15000 rpm)
- Tool changer with 30 stations, optionally 60
- Moving column design in a footprint of 2,630 x 3,200 x 2,900 mm (103.5 x 126.0 x 114.2 in)
- Siemens or Heidenhain control
Limitations
- Table load is limited to 200 kg (441 lb) including fixtures
- Positioned for 5-sided work; simultaneous 5-axis machining is the role of the UMILL 630
- Rapids of 30/30/30 m/min are below the 50/50/50 m/min of the UMILL 630
- The 15000 rpm motor spindle is listed as an option

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Emco describes it as a machine for 5-sided machining in a single set-up, using a swivel-rotary table of 630x500 mm. It is also available in a 3-axis version. For 5-axis simultaneous machining Emco lists the UMILL 630.
02
A mechanical spindle with 50-12000 rpm, 15 kW (20.1 hp) and 100 Nm (73.8 lb-ft) (S6), or a water-cooled motor spindle with 50-15000 rpm, 20 kW (26.8 hp) and 100 Nm (73.8 lb-ft).
03
The maximum table load is 200 kg (441 lb). The distance from spindle nose to table is 175/625 mm, which sets the height available for the fixture, part and tool together.
04
The Maxxmill 750 is the larger frame: a 750x600 mm table, 610 mm (24.0 in) of Y travel and a table load of 300 kg (661 lb). The Maxxmill 630 has the 630x500 mm table and carries 200 kg (441 lb).
