Overview

The Fooke ENDURA 900LINEAR Compact brings the metal-cutting side of the ENDURA range onto a closed, self-supporting bed. It is a 5-axis linear motor gantry for aluminium, cast iron and steel, with 3,500 mm (137.8 in) of Y, 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Z and an X travel listed as 2,500 / 4,000 / 5,500 mm.

A word on that X row. The same page states travels up to 9,000 x 3,500 x 1,500 mm in its list of advantages, which is longer than any value in the technical data. The length on offer should be settled with Fooke before a layout is drawn.

Why this model and not the lighter compact one? The head list answers it. Alongside milling head 4, with its HSK-A63 spindles of 42 kW and 67 Nm or 63 kW at 30,000 rpm, the page lists milling head 12. That head takes an HSK-A100 spindle of 60 kW at 15,000 rpm with 300 Nm, a different class of tool: large inserted cutters, long boring tools, real roughing in die steel. Heads 8 and 15 are listed too.

The frame is built for it. The bed is solid cast iron, and side walls, cross slide, Z beam and portal are welded steel described as extremely rigid yet weight-optimized. Feed rates are 5 - 65,000 mm/min in all three axes, lower than the 5 - 90,000 mm/min of the Fooke ENDURA 700LINEAR, while acceleration stays at up to 5 m/sec².

Position accuracy is 0.015 mm and position scatter 0.010 mm in each linear axis. Fooke's Thermo Guard cladding insulates the structure against short-term temperature swings in the hall.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Milling head 12 with an HSK-A100 spindle: 60 kW, 15,000 rpm and 300 Nm
  • 3,500 mm (137.8 in) of Y travel on a compact machine that needs no foundation
  • Position accuracy of 0.015 mm and position scatter of 0.010 mm in X, Y and Z
  • Solid cast iron machine bed with welded steel side walls, cross slide and portal
  • Thermo Guard thermal decoupling against short-term temperature fluctuations

Limitations

  • Feed rates of 5 - 65,000 mm/min are below those of the Fooke ENDURA 700LINEAR
  • The page's X travel row and its travels up to 9,000 x 3,500 x 1,500 mm statement do not agree
  • Only one Y and one Z travel are listed
  • Coolant, tool changing and measuring systems are optional equipment

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the ENDURA 900LINEAR Compact and the ENDURA 900LINEAR?

The Compact has a closed machine bed and can be set up without a foundation, with 3,500 mm (137.8 in) of Y and 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Z. The Fooke ENDURA 900LINEAR is the modular overhead gantry, with an X travel of 3,000 - 30,000 mm and a floor-level machine room.

02 Which travels does the ENDURA 900LINEAR Compact have?

The technical data lists X-axis travels of 2,500 / 4,000 / 5,500 mm, a Y-axis travel of 3,500 mm (137.8 in) and a Z-axis travel of 1,500 mm (59.1 in). Elsewhere on the page Fooke states travels up to 9,000 x 3,500 x 1,500 mm, so ask which X lengths are current.

03 How strong is the spindle on the ENDURA 900LINEAR Compact?

It depends on the head. Milling head 12 has an HSK-A100 spindle with 60 kW, 15,000 rpm and 300 Nm. Milling head 4 has HSK-A63 spindles with 42 kW, 24,000 rpm and 67 Nm, or 63 kW, 30,000 rpm and 31 Nm. Heads 8 and 15 are also listed, without spindle figures in this page's table.

04 What is Thermo Guard on the ENDURA 900LINEAR Compact?

It is Fooke's name for thermal decoupling: relevant structural components are coated and clad with insulation material and sheet metal. The maker says this significantly reduces the effect of external temperature fluctuations on positioning accuracy.
