Emco Dynamill

Length is open-ended on the Emco Dynamill. The longitudinal axis starts at 4500 mm and more (in steps of 2500 mm), so the gantry is built to the part and not the other way round. Cross travel is 3000 / 4000 mm and vertical travel 1500 / 2000 / 2500 mm (2500 mm only for S version).

The axis drives explain the name. Longitudinal and cross movement use rack and pinion systems, which do not lose stiffness with length as a ball screw does, and every axis motor is liquid cooled. The feed rate is 40 m/min (1,575 ipm), the same in cutting and in positioning. Emco describes the working range of the machine as running from roughing to super-finishing.

That range comes from interchangeable heads, stored in a head magazine with 2 / 3 pockets. The universal mechanical head delivers 600 / 750 Nm (standard), 1000 / 1500 Nm (option) (S1 / S6) at 15 - 6000 rpm for heavy cuts. The high-speed spindles then cover finishing, from a torque-oriented unit listed as 45 / 58 kW, 300 / 372 Nm (S1 / S6), 12000 rpm, HSK 100-A to the fastest at 42 / 55 kW, 67 / 87.5 Nm (S1 / S6), 24000 rpm, HSK 63-A. One machine can rough a die block with a large face mill and finish it with a small ball cutter in the same clamping.

Two spindle motors are offered, 60 kW 600 Nm as standard and 40 kW 1200 Nm as the option; the second halves the speed range for double the torque. The tool magazine has 48 / 64 / 96 pockets, and through-spindle coolant is 20 l/min, 20/40/60 bar. Controls are Heidenhain or Siemens.
