How much does the DMS Freedom Forge cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DMS Freedom Forge that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The DMS Freedom Forge is the newest machine in the Freedom line, a 3-axis router with a 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) cutting area that DMS presents as the next generation of the Freedom platform. Strokes are 48 in (1,219 mm) on X, 96 in (2,438 mm) on Y and 12 in (305 mm) on Z, with 9 in (229 mm) of clearance under the bridge.
The changes DMS describes are structural: a reinforced base and frame, upgraded rails, and the Fagor Optima Drive System. It is also the only Freedom model for which DMS publishes both an accuracy and a repeatability figure, ±0.003 in (±0.076 mm) and ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm). Repeatability is the one that matters for a production run of identical parts; accuracy governs a single part measured against its drawing.
Motion is by spinning ball nut and recirculating ball screw, with absolute encoders in the Fagor servo motors and a Fagor HMI and NC. Rapid feed is up to 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min). The spindle range is 4.5-8 kW from the MT200, MT201, PT300 and PT402 units, to an 8 kW maximum at 24,000 rpm. A rack tool changer with a maximum capacity of 10 is listed, with manual changing as the alternative, and a C-axis is optional.
DMS also makes a maintenance case for the design, citing external routing, simplified layouts and standardized components that make troubleshooting quicker. The table is 4 ft x 8 ft of 1 in phenolic with aluminum optional, power is 220 V 3-phase at 60 Hz, and lubrication is a manual system.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Published accuracy of ±0.003 in (±0.076 mm) and repeatability of ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm)
- Reinforced base and frame with upgraded rails and the Fagor Optima Drive System
- Full-sheet 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) cutting area with rapids up to 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min)
- Rack tool changer with a maximum capacity of 10 tools
- Absolute encoders in the Fagor servo motors, so no homing reference is lost at power-down
- External routing and simplified layouts intended to shorten troubleshooting
Limitations
- Clearance under the bridge is 9 in (229 mm), which limits material thickness more than the 12 in (305 mm) Z stroke suggests
- Maximum spindle power is 8 kW, below the 13 kW / 15 kW listed for the Freedom8 with the same cutting area
- Lubrication is a manual system
- The standard table is 1 in phenolic; aluminum is optional

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Both have a 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) cutting area and 12 in (305 mm) of Z. DMS describes the Freedom Forge as the next generation of the platform, with a reinforced base, upgraded rails and the Fagor Optima Drive System, and publishes accuracy and repeatability figures for it. The Freedom8 lists larger spindles, up to 13 kW / 15 kW against 8 kW.
02
The data sheet gives a maximum accuracy of ±0.003 in (±0.076 mm) and a repeatability of ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm). The X and Y axes are laser calibrated, and the Fagor servo motors have absolute encoders.
03
The spindle units listed are the MT200, MT201, PT300 and PT402, covering 4.5-8 kW with a maximum of 8 kW at 24,000 rpm. The tool changer is listed as rack or manual, with a maximum capacity of 10. A C-axis is optional.
