We do not have a price for the DMS Freedom4 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.

DMS Freedom4 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the DMS Freedom4 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from DMS or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The DMS Freedom4 is the smallest router DMS builds: a 3-axis moving-gantry machine with a 48 x 48 in (1,219 x 1,219 mm) cutting area and 12 in (305 mm) of Z stroke. DMS aims it at tight workspaces and at specialty work such as orthotics, custom plastics and small-run prototyping.

What separates it from hobby-class machines of the same table size is the hardware. Every axis runs on a recirculating ball screw with Fagor industrial AC servo motors and amplifiers, the encoders are absolute, and the control is a Fagor 8070 OL 3-axis industrial controller with a 17 in LCD color monitor. The frame is steel and the X and Y axes are laser calibrated.

A Hiteco spindle of 10 hp / 7.5 kW is standard, and DMS lists other units from the MT200 to the PT400 covering 4.5-8 kW, to an 8 kW maximum at 24,000 rpm. A C-axis is optional. The table is 4 ft x 4 ft of 1 in phenolic, with aluminum tables also available, and vacuum hold-down is not included: a 10 or 15 hp Becker pump is an option.

Installation needs 220 V 3-phase power at 60 Hz, with the current depending on the spindle, and a dust collector to connect to the 5 in port on the hood. Lubrication is manual. The product page and the data sheet give different rapid feed rates and bridge clearances for this model, so neither is quoted here.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ball screws on all axes with Fagor industrial AC servo motors and amplifiers, on a machine with a 48 x 48 in (1,219 x 1,219 mm) cutting area
  • Fagor 8070 OL 3-axis industrial controller with a 17 in LCD color monitor
  • Hiteco 10 hp / 7.5 kW spindle as standard, with a top speed of 24,000 rpm
  • Absolute encoders and laser-calibrated X and Y axes
  • Ethernet TCP/IP, USB and serial port connections

Limitations

  • Travel is 48 in (1,219 mm) on X and Y, so a 4 ft x 8 ft sheet has to be cut down first or go on the Freedom8
  • Needs 220 V 3-phase power, which many garage and home shops do not have
  • The vacuum pump is an option, not part of the base machine
  • Lubrication is manual, so greasing the axes is an operator task
  • Spindle power tops out at 8 kW; the Freedom8 lists units up to 13 kW

Best For

Orthotics and other small specialty parts Custom plastics and acrylic work on quarter and half sheets Small-run prototyping in wood, foam and composites Shops with floor space for only a 4 ft x 4 ft machine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the cutting area of the DMS Freedom4?

The cutting area is 48 x 48 in (1,219 x 1,219 mm), with X and Y strokes of 48 in (1,219 mm) each and a Z stroke of 12 in (305 mm). The standard table is 4 ft x 4 ft of 1 in phenolic; aluminum tables are also available.

02 What spindle comes on the Freedom4?

A Hiteco electro spindle of 10 hp / 7.5 kW is standard, and other hp options are available. The comparison table lists Hiteco MT200, MT201, PT300 and PT400 units with a range of 4.5-8 kW, a maximum of 8 kW and a maximum speed of 24,000 rpm.

03 What control does the Freedom4 use?

A Fagor 8070 OL 3-axis industrial controller with a 17 in LCD color monitor, driving Fagor industrial AC servo motors and amplifiers on all axes. It connects over Ethernet TCP/IP, USB and a serial port.

04 What does the Freedom4 need on site?

Power is 220 V, 3-phase, 60 Hz, with the amperage determined by the spindle option. The dust hood accepts a 5 in dust collection line from the customer's own system. A vacuum pump, if wanted, is an option: DMS lists a 10 or 15 hp Becker.
