Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat CGX that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Danobat CGX is a universal cylindrical grinder built around a three-wheel head, two for outside diameters and one for bores, on a machine that accepts parts up to 1,800 mm (70.9 in) between centers, 540 mm (21.2 in) in diameter and 500 kg (1,102 lb). Danobat presents it as its versatile, compact model and says it uses 30% less floor space than moving-table alternatives.
Versatility comes from the B-axis. It is infinitely programmable, driven by a torque motor, and its angular position is stated to repeat within ±1 μm measured at a radius of 650 mm (25.6 in). With three wheels indexed on that axis, a shaft can have its journals, a shoulder and an internal bore ground without being turned around. Danobat's list of what the configuration handles runs from OD and ID grinding to threads and non-round shapes.
The grinding hardware is lighter than on the production-oriented CG line. The external wheel is at most Ø508 x 80 mm (Ø20 x 3.14 in), the external grinding spindle is rated 15 kW (20.1 hp) and the peripheral speed limit is 80 m/s (15,750 sfpm). That suits finishing and mixed work better than wide plunge cuts. Spindles are built-in electro-spindles on precision bearings, with hydrostatic bearings named as an option.
Two software functions are new on this model. GrindIQ sets grinding parameters from a few component details, and GrindTune adjusts parameters during the cycle. An MDM gauge is an optional accessory covering diameters of 5–125 mm (0.2–4.9 in), quoted at ±1.5 μm accuracy and 1 μm repeatability. The bed is natural granite and the axes are linear-motor driven.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Three-wheel configuration (2x OD and 1x ID) grinds outside diameters and bores in one clamping
- Large envelope for a compact machine: 1,800 mm (70.9 in), 540 mm (21.2 in) and 500 kg (1,102 lb)
- B-axis angular position repeatable within ±1 μm measured at a radius of 650 mm (25.6 in)
- GrindIQ defines grinding parameters from a few component details; GrindTune adapts them in-process
- Natural granite bed, linear motors and built-in electro-spindles
Limitations
- External wheel is limited to Ø508 x 80 mm (Ø20 x 3.14 in), half the width of the CG-1800 wheel
- External grinding spindle is 15 kW (20.1 hp); the table gives no figure for the ID spindle
- The MDM gauge is an optional accessory and covers only 5–125 mm (0.2–4.9 in) diameters
- A single size is offered, so short-part shops pay for 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of bed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Three. Danobat describes a three-wheel configuration with 2x OD and 1x ID, designed for OD and ID grinding, threads and complex non-round shapes. The wheels are positioned by a torque-motor B-axis that Danobat calls infinitely programmable, with a high resolution rotary encoder controlling the angle.
02
Maximum distance between centers is 1,800 mm (70.9 in), maximum diameter to be ground 540 mm (21.2 in) and maximum weight between centers 500 kg (1,102 lb). The largest external wheel is Ø508 x 80 mm (Ø20 x 3.14 in) at up to 80 m/s (15,750 sfpm), on a 15 kW (20.1 hp) external grinding spindle.
03
The part envelope is the same; the wheelhead is not. The CG-1800 mounts a Ø610 x 160 mm (Ø24 x 6.29 in) wheel and is aimed at production. The CGX mounts a narrower Ø508 x 80 mm (Ø20 x 3.14 in) wheel on 15 kW (20.1 hp), adds an ID wheel on a swivelling B-axis, and is aimed at varied work.
04
It measures before, during and after grinding without stopping production. Danobat states it gives real-time control of multiple diameters from 5 to 125 mm, including interrupted or continuously varying surfaces, with ±1.5 μm accuracy and 1 μm repeatability. It is offered as an optional accessory.
05
Functions of the DoGrind+ software introduced with the CGX. GrindIQ takes a few component details and defines the grinding parameters automatically, which shortens setup. GrindTune adjusts key parameters during the grinding cycle. Both are described by Danobat as software features; no hardware requirement is stated.
