Overview
The Starrag Berthiez RVU Series is a line of grinding machines that can carry up to 4 water-cooled grinding spindles, each rated 45 kW and running at up to 18,000 RPM. The main drive is a torque motor, wheel balancing is automatic, and the control is a Siemens SINUMERIK ONE.
Several spindles on one machine mean several wheels ready at once. An outside diameter, a bore and a face can each have a wheel of the right shape and grit, and the part is finished without being unclamped between operations. That keeps the ground surfaces concentric and square to one another, which is usually why a part is being ground in the first place. Water cooling holds spindle temperature steady, and automatic balancing removes the manual step that otherwise follows a wheel change.
A torque motor drives its axis directly, with no gearbox or belt in between, so there is no backlash or gear ripple to print through onto the ground surface. Starrag's series page states no grinding diameters, workpiece heights or table loads. Those have to come from the quotation for the specific machine.
