Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat CG-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
One metre between centers puts the Danobat CG-1000 in the size most transmission and motor shafts need. It is the middle model of the CG production grinders: 1,000 mm (39.37 in) between centers, 440 mm (17 in) maximum ground diameter and 500 kg (1,100 lb) between centers.
The working parts are common to the family. The wheel can be as large as Ø610 x 160 mm (Ø24 x 6.29 in) and runs at up to 80 m/s (15,750 sfpm); Danobat's own summary of the CG wheel adds up to 25 kW (33.5 hp). So the choice between this machine and the CG-600 is purely one of length, and the choice between it and the CG-1800 is length plus diameter, since the longest model also grinds up to 540 mm (21 in).
What does the extra bed buy besides longer shafts? Room for workholding and gauging. Danobat mounts a measuring head on the W axis for automatic axial positioning, and offers dressers at the workhead, synchronous tailstocks and taper adjustment. On a 600 mm machine those compete with the part for space. Here a gearbox shaft or EV motor shaft, both on Danobat's list of CG workpieces, can sit between a driven workhead and a tailstock with the gauge and dresser still in reach.
Changeover is where the maker concentrates its claims: an automatic set-up cycle for dressing a new straight wheel, an automatic wheel changing cycle, and a Z axis reference block for wheel touch offset that avoids manual setting. Tailstock axes with strokes of up to 600 mm (23.6 in) are available. The structure is a natural granite bed carrying linear motor axes.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,000 mm (39.37 in) between centers with a 500 kg (1,100 lb) weight capacity
- Takes the full Ø610 x 160 mm (Ø24 x 6.29 in) wheel at up to 80 m/s (15,750 sfpm)
- Z axis reference block for wheel touch offset removes manual setting after a wheel change
- Measuring head on the W axis positions itself axially along the shaft
- Tailstock axes with strokes of up to 600 mm (23.6 in) are available for mixed part lengths
Limitations
- Ground diameter is limited to 440 mm (17 in); only the CG-1800 reaches 540 mm (21 in)
- Weight between centers does not rise with length: 500 kg (1,100 lb) on every CG model
- Wheel power is quoted only as up to 25 kW (33.5 hp), without a figure per wheelhead configuration
- Danobat's table for the CG lists five rows; travels, feed rates and machine weight are not published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
By length, and at the top end by diameter. The CG-600 has 600 mm (23.62 in) between centers and the CG-1800 has 1,800 mm (70.9 in). All three carry 500 kg (1,100 lb) and the same Ø610 x 160 mm (Ø24 x 6.29 in) wheel. The CG-1800 alone grinds up to 540 mm (21 in) in diameter.
02
80 m/s (15,750 sfpm) is the maximum wheel peripheral speed in Danobat's table. The maker also lists constant peripheral wheel speed, so the spindle speeds up as the wheel wears to hold the cutting speed. Fully automatic wheel balancing is listed with it.
03
Danobat lists an automatic set-up cycle for dressing a new straight grinding wheel, an automatic wheel changing cycle and a Z axis reference block for wheel touch offset. The tailstock quill ranges from 80 to 170 mm (3.1 to 6.7 in), and tailstock axes with strokes of up to 600 mm (23.6 in) are available.
04
A natural granite bed, with coolant through the bed and grinding area. The axes use linear motors, which Danobat notes have no ball screws or belts to wear, and the workhead is direct driven. Clamping choices include three jaw, customised and hydraulic chucks.
