Overview

The Biglia B750Y is the Y-axis version of the B750 that keeps its tailstock. It gives the turret 140 mm (5.5 in) of Y travel on top of 305 mm of X and 860 mm of Z, with driven tools, a C-axis on the main spindle and the servo B-axis tailstock for long work.

Y travel changes what the live tools can do. A flat can be milled straight across instead of being approximated with C-axis moves, a keyway can be cut to width with a smaller cutter, and holes can be drilled off the centreline. The Y-axis is not a fast axis, though: its rapid is 7.5 m/min, against 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z, so programs with many small Y repositioning moves will show it in the cycle time.

Diameter needs a careful read on this machine. Biglia prints the swing over diameter as 680/500 mm and the suggested machining diameter for the 70 mm bar spindle as 552/350 mm, without saying in the table what separates the two values of each pair. Check large-diameter parts against the brochure's machining-field drawings before assuming the full envelope.

Live tooling is rated 12/15 kW and 35/37 Nm, with 6,000 rpm as the limit for standard rotary tools. The tailstock positions over 910 mm at 15 m/min. Three main spindles are offered, up to 93/100 mm bar and 800-1,014 Nm, and the machine weighs 7,450 kg with swarf conveyor.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 140 mm (5.5 in) of Y travel for off-centre drilling and true flat milling
  • Keeps the CNC B-axis tailstock: 910 mm of positioning, MT 4-5
  • Driven tools at 16 or 12 stations, 12/15 kW and 35/37 Nm
  • Main spindles from 4,500 rpm and 30-40 kW up to 800-1,014 Nm at 3,000 rpm
  • Machining length of 765 mm with a Ø 250 mm chuck

Limitations

  • Y rapid is 7.5 m/min, less than half the 18 m/min of the X-axis
  • No sub-spindle; the back of the part needs another setup or the B750YS
  • Swing and suggested machining diameter are printed as unexplained pairs (680/500 mm, 552/350 mm), so the usable diameter has to be confirmed
  • Standard rotary tools cap live tool speed at 6,000 rpm
06

Best For

Shafts with milled flats, keyways or off-centre holes Long parts that need tailstock support while being milled One-setup turning and milling of parts finished from one end Replacing a lathe plus a separate milling operation on shaft work

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much Y-axis travel does the B750Y have?

Biglia's table gives a Y-axis stroke of 140 mm with a rapid traverse of 7.5 m/min. X stroke is 305 mm at 18 m/min and Z stroke 860 mm at 24 m/min. The table does not split the Y stroke into plus and minus, so take the distribution about centre from the machining-field drawing.

02 Does the B750Y keep the tailstock?

Yes. The brochure lists the B750Y with rotary tools, C-axis, Y-axis and CNC automatic tailstock. The tailstock is the servo-driven B-axis type with 910 mm of automatic positioning, a 15 m/min rapid and Morse taper 4-5. Position and thrust are CNC-controlled.

03 Should I choose the B750Y or the B750M?

Both have driven tools, a C-axis and the tailstock. The B750M mills with X, Z and C only. The B750Y adds 140 mm of Y travel, which is what off-centre holes and flat surfaces need. Biglia lists the B750Y at 7,450 kg and the B750M at 7,350 kg with swarf conveyor.

04 What do the paired diameter figures in the B750Y table mean?

The table prints swing over diameter as 680/500 mm and the suggested machining diameter as 552/350 mm, 552/450 mm or 552 mm depending on the spindle. The table itself does not explain the pairs. The brochure's machining-field drawings show the turret and tool clearances in more detail, so ask Biglia to confirm the diameter available for your part and tooling.
