Overview

The YCM NT-2500SY is a twin-spindle turning center with a Y axis, built to finish a part on both ends without an operator turning it round. The main spindle has an A2-8 nose and runs to 3,500 rpm; the sub-spindle has an A2-5 nose and runs to 6,000 rpm. Maximum turning diameter is ø350 mm (ø13.78 in) and turning length 686 mm (27.01 in).

Both spindles are YCM's own built-in motorized units, which removes the belt and its tension, slip and vibration. Each has a C axis that indexes in 0.001° steps and turns at 50 rpm. The main motor is rated 15/22 kW (20/30 HP) and the sub-spindle motor 5.5/7.5 kW. The sub-spindle travels 770 mm (30.32 in) on its B axis to take the part from the main chuck.

The radial power turret holds 12 tools, with 16 optional, and every station can drive a live tool at up to 4,500 rpm with 3.6 kgf-m. The Y axis is listed as 100 mm, ±50 from centre. With Y and C together the machine mills flats, pockets and off-centre holes that a C-axis-only lathe has to approximate.

The bed is a one-piece 30° slant casting on a bridge type base with wide, induction hardened box guideways. Direct drive motors are used on X, Y, Z and B. Bar capacity is given as ø75 mm through the draw bar, with ø80 mm in brackets, and the spindle bore is ø91 mm (ø3.58 in). The machine weighs 7,450 kg (16,424 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Built-in motorized main and sub spindles, both with a 0.001° C axis
  • Y axis of 100 mm (±50) for off-centre milling and drilling
  • 12-station radial power turret with all stations available for live tools
  • Sub-spindle with 770 mm (30.32 in) of B-axis travel for part transfer
  • Induction hardened box guideways on a 30° one-piece slant bed

Limitations

  • Sub-spindle motor is 5.5/7.5 kW, well below the main spindle
  • A single turret serves both spindles, so the two ends are cut one after the other
  • Live tool torque is 3.6 kgf-m
  • The table lists no tailstock for this model
06

Best For

Complex turn-mill parts finished on both ends in one cycle Bar-fed production with automatic transfer to the sub-spindle Parts with off-centre features that need a Y axis
